Late at night, nothing unusual happened until the banquet ended.

After seeing the guests off, Shi Junyi stood in the hotel parking lot and looked at Jiang Qiao, Chen Sheng, and Chris. "Where's Sang Ye?"

The three exchanged glances. Chen Sheng lowered his head. "He should still be in the restroom."

Shi Junyi nodded. "Let's go."

Chen Sheng asked quietly, "Young Master, should we wait for him a little longer?"

This was the first time such a situation had arisen during a mission.

The employer was ready to leave, while the bodyguard was still using the restroom.

No matter the objective reason, this was a serious dereliction of duty and went against the professional standards of a personal bodyguard.

Shi Junyi asked Chen Sheng in an easygoing tone, "Do you want to wait for him?"

Chen Sheng's heart skipped a beat, and he hurriedly shook his head. "No!"

Jiang Qiao tactfully stepped forward and opened the car door for Shi Junyi.

Shi Junyi thanked Jiang Qiao, got into the car, and said softly, "Tell him to walk back."

The Shi family's million-dollar annual salary and enormous insurance policy were not so easy to earn. Any bodyguard's negligence could lead to irreversible consequences.

If you took the money and failed to do the job, you had to bear the responsibility.

Once inside, Jiang Qiao said, "Brother is really tolerant and considerate toward his subordinates. If he runs back from here, it should only take three or four hours, right?"

That was assuming Sang Ye had not drunk that glass of orange juice.

Hearing Jiang Qiao call Shi Junyi "Brother," the driver could not help feeling that this new bodyguard had something wrong with him.

If it was not something in his background, then it was something in his head—most likely a tumor or fluid on the brain.

Shi Junyi did not respond to Jiang Qiao. "That Miss Luo tonight was quite pretty."

Jiang Qiao curled his lips. "Brother saw me talking to her?"

"Yes. I saw you two chatting and laughing, doing magic tricks and giving her flowers." Shi Junyi looked at Jiang Qiao, his expression unreadable.

Jiang Qiao said, "Just cheap little tricks, enough to amuse a young lady. Is Brother jealous?"

Shi Junyi chuckled. "During a mission, you privately cut off communications, chatted with someone else, and neglected your duty."

Jiang Qiao's half-raised smile froze instantly.

Looking at Jiang Qiao's comical expression, Shi Junyi said gently, "Remember to accept your punishment when we get back."

Country Y was not much different from the Southeast Asian country Jiang Qiao had once lived in. Nearly all the skyscrapers and population were concentrated in a handful of developed cities.

Binhai Special Zone was one of them.

The streets that were packed with traffic and impossible to navigate during the day became empty and spacious late at night.

Two black sedans sped along, one after the other.

A sudden gunshot tore through the silence, jolting Jiang Qiao awake from his drowsiness.

"Fuck! You fucking bastard, you scared the hell out of me!" Jiang Qiao cursed.

In the front rearview mirror, he saw several motorcycles speeding toward them from behind, along with several obviously modified SUVs.

The shooter still had his head out the window, aiming at them.

Jiang Qiao clicked his tongue. "There sure are a lot of people who want Brother dead."

Shi Junyi neither confirmed nor denied it. "That's why you have this job."

Taking the opportunity, Jiang Qiao grasped Shi Junyi's hand resting on his thigh and said tenderly, "Don't worry, Brother. I'll protect you."

Shi Junyi did not hear any other voice in Jiang Qiao's mind.

That meant it was the truth, at least his words matched his heart.

The driver clearly had extensive experience with this sort of situation. Without changing expression, he slammed down on the accelerator and picked up speed.

Two more gunshots rang out. At this point, Chris and Chen Sheng in the car behind them also stuck their heads out the windows and returned fire.

Chen Sheng was an excellent shot. A motorcycle immediately went down.

Unfortunately, the other side had overwhelming numbers. Before long, they had surrounded Shi Junyi's two cars from behind.

Shi Junyi's car had clearly been modified with bulletproof protection. A bullet struck the glass behind Jiang Qiao's head with a dull thud, leaving only a small dent.

Jiang Qiao narrowed his eyes and pressed Shi Junyi's head down, making him duck.

He lowered the window halfway and fired at the head sticking out from the front passenger seat of an SUV behind them.

But Jiang Qiao's shooting was truly awful. He missed the gunman in the passenger seat, yet by sheer luck hit the SUV's tire.

With a loud bang, the vehicle swerved toward the roadside.

More and more SUVs appeared behind them. Jiang Qiao fired two more shots in succession, but apart from the gunshots, he hit nothing.

Shi Junyi frowned as he watched. "Did they send you to amuse me?"

Jiang Qiao cursed under his breath, glaring angrily at the Glock in his hand. "I don't know how to use this!"

Shi Junyi ignored him, snatched the loaded Glock away, shoved Jiang Qiao down, and fired several shots through the window, taking down the three motorcyclists who were nearly riding alongside them.

He also blew apart a head that had not yet managed to duck back into the SUV behind them.

Jiang Qiao whistled. "Beautiful!"

Shi Junyi sneered. "Useless."

"Watch out!"

A bullet shot through the gap in the window. Jiang Qiao shoved Shi Junyi onto the seat, and the bullet barely passed over the back of Jiang Qiao's head before embedding itself in the car door.

The enemy had more cars and more people. This could not continue. Even if Shi Junyi's car was bulletproof, the tires remained a weakness. If they found an opening to blow out a tire, it would be extremely dangerous.

Jiang Qiao closed the window. "Listen to me now. Their target is you. When we reach those bushes ahead, I'll get you out."

Shi Junyi raised a brow. It sounded as though Jiang Qiao intended to hand him over and save his own life.

But before Shi Junyi could think any further, Jiang Qiao had already pulled open the door on the roadside as the driver neared the shoulder.

Using the surrounding chaos and the blind spots created by the dim streetlights, he dragged Shi Junyi out of the car.

Jiang Qiao protected Shi Junyi's head, wrapped him in his arms, and rolled into the bushes along the roadside.

The impact left Jiang Qiao's insides churning.

Fortunately, the soil was soft. Apart from the burning pain on the forearm he had used to shield Shi Junyi, which had been scratched by branches in the bushes, he had not suffered any serious injuries elsewhere.

Shi Junyi had been protected so thoroughly that, aside from looking somewhat disheveled, he did not even have a scrape.

After catching his breath, Jiang Qiao pulled Shi Junyi to his feet and ran back.

"Where are we going?" Shi Junyi asked.

Jiang Qiao panted heavily. "There's a motorcycle about two hundred meters away. The rider's dead, so the bike should still work."

Sure enough, when they ran back, they saw a motorcycle that had crashed into the landscaping.

A short distance away lay a motionless man. There was a black hole in his neck, still bleeding.

Jiang Qiao took the helmet off the dead man's head and handed it to Shi Junyi.

Shi Junyi refused. "I'd rather die."

Jiang Qiao put the helmet back on the man's head. As he was about to stand, he thought for a moment, took the helmet off again, and removed the earpiece from the man's ear.

Jiang Qiao put the earpiece in his other ear, dusted off his hands, righted the motorcycle, and climbed on. "Get on."

This scene felt oddly familiar.

Shi Junyi smoothly climbed onto the back of Jiang Qiao's motorcycle. The difference was that this time, he granted Jiang Qiao's wish and wrapped his arms around Jiang Qiao's waist.

Jiang Qiao let out a satisfied sigh and rode in the opposite direction from the group they had just escaped.

Meanwhile, the Shi family's driver, Chen Sheng, and Chris were surrounded on all sides, frantically evading the pursuing vehicles.

Just as a bullet grazed Chris's cheek and shattered an outer side mirror, an unfamiliar male voice sounded through the earpieces of the people in the SUVs and on the motorcycles.

It belonged to none of their teammates.

"Hello? Hello, hello, can you hear me?" Jiang Qiao said.

"What the hell are you doing? Your professional skills suck. You lost the cake and you're still chasing the box. You're fucking idiots."

With that, Jiang Qiao tossed away the earpiece, fired a shot into the night sky to expose his location, then sped off with Shi Junyi.

Hearing the gunshot behind them, the SUVs and motorcycles finally stopped pursuing Chris, Chen Sheng, and the others.

The man leading them cursed furiously, turned the vehicle around, and raced back after them.

Unfortunately, it was already too late.
