Background / History

Fang Yun began as a Cold Gate student in Ji County, unable to afford the education, texts, or teachers available to prominent families. The original Fang Yun was beaten to death shortly before the County Examination, leaving the current Fang Yun to awaken in a hostile situation and protect his household. 2

His closest early companion was Yang Yuhuan, his child bride. Fang Yun considered his poverty an injustice to her and vowed that he would only marry her after earning a place on the golden list. 2 He rapidly pursued the examinations while relying on an exceptional memory for books and a determination to use learning to improve the Human Race's agriculture, technology, and prosperity. 3 107

After becoming a Licentiate, Fang Yun voluntarily enlisted as an ordinary soldier in the Sea-Calming Army's second guard, first battalion, third company. He endured veteran hazing, excelled in a city-wide endurance run, and earned the unit's respect without exposing his identity or military knowledge. 158 159

His rise as a Metropolitan Graduate and Void Sage made him a central figure in Jing Kingdom politics and the Human Race's struggle against Demon Barbarians. He repeatedly used poetry, calligraphy, military strategy, and government administration to defend civilians, weaken hostile aristocratic clans, and cultivate capable officials. 666 853 900

While in the Bloodmang Ancient Land under the identity Yun Fang, he concealed his origin while navigating local family politics, wanted notices, and the Dragon City Ruins. The Bloodmang Realm's transformation ultimately recognized him as its Lord, granting him authority over the realm and the title of Sun Emperor. 1138 1214 1304

Fang Yun later operated in Chu Kingdom as Zhang Longxiang, taking command of the Pingjiang Army and confronting the King of Chu over injustice, military authority, and the treatment of Zhang Longxiang's household. 1514 1515 1616 His path eventually expanded beyond the Human Race's political sphere, through the Burial Saint Valley, Emperor Land, Dragon City, Kunlun, and conflicts involving Saints, Saint Ancestors, and the Demon Realm. 2260 2936 3188 3343

Appearance

Fang Yun's appearance changes with his cultivation and identities. During his rebirth as Lord of Bloodmang, he appears as a youth of sixteen or seventeen in white Ink Plum Hanlin robes, with profound eyes likened to a corner of the starry sky. 1304 As a Half-Sage, he retains the appearance of a vigorous young man around twenty, marked by black hair and an unusually youthful presence among older sages. 3117

  • Wears scholar robes, including Ink Plum Hanlin Academician robes. 1304
  • Alters his face and voice through the Painting Way and Literary Qi while using the identity Yun Fang. 1138
  • Later manifests a vast, star-like body surrounded by Literary Way power and a complete Literary Star. 2957

Personality

Fang Yun is defined by disciplined learning, composure, and a practical sense of responsibility. Even as a Cold Gate student, he focuses on surviving, studying, and creating conditions through which ordinary people can gain access to knowledge and prosperity. 2 107

He is courteous toward allies and ordinary citizens but uncompromising toward those who exploit the weak. He protects Yang Yuhuan, intervenes against threats to the Wang Household, resolves a Fang–Lu land dispute through poetry, and demands punishment for those responsible for injustice in Chu Kingdom. 381 1623 1616

His restraint is strategic rather than passive. Fang Yun conceals his strength when disclosure would be dangerous, studies opponents during combat, and uses apparent setbacks as opportunities to refine his methods. 1138 1350 2288 When needed, he can become openly severe, particularly against traitors, predatory nobles, and enemies of the Human Race. 411 1063 2378
