"To interrogate her, she ate an entire month's worth of our rations."
"?"
Munch, munch, munch.
The metal bulkhead reflected her constantly moving cheeks.
She held up an energy bar and bit into it again and again. Though it was hard, she still ate it all.
Xiao Huasheng sat cross-legged in the middle of the interrogation room, energy bar wrappers piled beside her nearly up to her shoulders.
With every bite, the crisp crack of the energy bar created a strange echo in the sealed room.
An Ultramarines servo-skull circled by the door, its optical lenses constantly adjusting their focus.
It had recorded the target's entire seventeen-hour feeding session.
The concentrated nutrient blocks that were meant to sustain Space Marines through intense combat were vanishing into that seemingly tiny mouth at a rate of two bars per minute.
"They're so hard, and way too sweet. So sweet they're almost bitter."
Xiao Huasheng complained as she continued stuffing energy bars into her mouth.
Visibly, even though Lobotomy Corporation was temporarily inactive, her energy gauge kept rising.
After eating a number of bizarre energy bars, her energy soon rose to 77%.
"Looks like my mouth isn't completely useless after all."
Xiao Huasheng was relieved that she could still obtain energy normally through food.
After she stuffed the final energy bar into her mouth, a crunch sounded, and her energy stopped at 80%.
[I think you could try the metal boxes on the floor. Maybe they can turn into energy too? If we can eat things that aren't food, then maybe we won't have to worry about dying.]
Angela made a suggestion.
After learning that this place was an actual spaceship, a revelation that almost exceeded Xiao Huasheng's understanding, she came to realize something as well.
Even if she escaped, it would be useless unless she wanted the silent depths of space for company.
Xiao Huasheng gave up on the idea of escaping and obediently accepted imprisonment.
What mattered now was finding other ways to replenish her energy.
Eating food with her mouth was one viable method.
Xiao Huasheng had forcibly eaten her energy from 40% to 80%. If that big blue guy had not absolutely refused to give her any more food—
She felt she could have eaten until she reached 100%.
Looking at the metal box on the floor, Xiao Huasheng hesitated before finally taking a bite.
Crunch, crunch. She tossed the metal box into her mouth, but she lacked the strength to bite through it and could only waste her effort.
"I can't bite through it."
The servo-skull saw her trying to bite the metal box too.
Angela's voice came through, and she kindly recommended a new function to Xiao Huasheng.
[Although the Anti-Memetics Department hasn't figured it out yet, I developed something new during the process.]
"What is it?"
[Reality Bender Mode. I discovered that we have reality-warping abilities. They were suppressed by the Reality Stabilization Anchor before, so we never noticed. The reason we can pull guns out whenever we want is because of this ability. But it consumes a great deal of energy, so I turned it into a mode.]
"Reality Bender Mode?" Xiao Huasheng understood what that meant.
It meant that whatever she thought of, she could have.
For example, if Xiao Huasheng thought the world ought to be friendly to her, then it would become friendly to her.
Of course, this process had to be sustained and consumed a massive amount of Xiao Huasheng's energy.
And once Xiao Huasheng turned off the mode, she would lose that ability.
However... the changes she caused in others would not revert.
Unless they were near a Reality Stabilization Anchor, which would clear her influence.
[Activate this mode and think that you have the strength to bite through the box. I've also capped this mode's energy consumption at 90%. We'll keep 10% in reserve, so we won't suddenly drop dead.]
"Okay."
After nodding, she casually activated her reality-bending ability.
She opened her mouth and slowly bit down on the metal box. Almost instantly, she bit straight through it.
The box that she had been completely unable to bite through before entered Xiao Huasheng's mouth in an instant.
But that single bite dropped her energy from 80% to 79%. That was an enormous expenditure.
Even firing a hundred devastating explosive rounds at once would not consume as much energy as that bite.
Frightened, she hurriedly turned off the mode. "That used so much energy!"
The angel was exploring her body!
Blood Ravens Broke Into the House [3rd Update]
But at least the metal box had entered Xiao Huasheng's stomach. She swallowed it.
Yet the expected rise in energy never came. Instead, it felt like she had eaten nothing at all.
"Uh."
She stuck out her little tongue, wanting to vomit the metal back up, but it seemed to have vanished completely.
"Where did it go?" Xiao Huasheng was utterly shocked.
[It's with me.]
Angela replied. Apparently, she had found a broken piece of the metal box inside Lobotomy Corporation.
In her confusion, Xiao Huasheng saw the metal box fragment she had just eaten appear in her hand.
Could her stomach be connected to Lobotomy Corporation?
After a while.
She tried gnawing on the metal box again, but the overwhelming bite force she expected did not appear.
Crunch, crunch. She still could not bite through it.
[It seems that even if this body is affected by its own reality-warping ability, it will return to normal after the ability is withdrawn.]
The red-haired angel said nothing and simply kept gnawing on the metal box.
As she chewed on it with little crunching sounds, like she was grinding her teeth—
Clang.
The opening of the pipe above her head suddenly fell off.
No one knew why there was even a pipe in a room used to hold prisoners, nor did anyone know what genius had designed it.
But in any case, the opening simply fell off.
A head poked out from inside. Xiao Huasheng looked up and saw only a red helmet.
The two stared at each other.
(PS: In the official series, there really was a rescue through the pipes. The rough plot involved an encounter between an ordinary human rat and two Ultramarines.)
The next second.
Xiao Huasheng felt someone grab her hand, and her entire body vanished into the pipe.
"Gah! What are you doing?!"
Xiao Huasheng was suddenly abducted by a complete stranger. She was tied around his waist and carried away under his arm.
At the same time, she saw him carrying a large sack on his back as he moved through the pipes.
Instinctively, she felt that this fellow was sneaky and did not look like a good person.
At that moment, the person covered head to toe in red paint raised a finger to her lips and spoke.
"Shh. I'm here to rescue you."
"R-Really?" Xiao Huasheng asked. The man nodded with absolute certainty.
So she covered her mouth as well and stopped moving.
Angela silently made a snide remark.
[I think this guy is a thief. He came aboard this ship to steal things.]
"Forget all that. Just ask whether he's taking me out of prison," Xiao Huasheng muttered quietly as well.
Seeing that Xiao Huasheng had fallen silent, the man did not bother with anything else and ran off with her.
Within the complex pipes of this enormous vessel, the man seemed to have conducted prior reconnaissance. Whenever he was about to be discovered, he evaded detection by the narrowest margin, slipping through unnoticed time and time again.
If he was a thief, then he was absolutely a master thief.
"A distress signal has come from Macragge."
A voice rang out, but the information that followed was beyond comprehension.
"What?"
All the Ultramarines gathered around. Soon, they saw a sight they had never witnessed in their lives.
The image transmitted through the communication channel plunged every Ultramarine into brief silence.
Several enormous Battle Moons floated in the orbits of the defensive planets surrounding Macragge.
The terrifying celestial bodies, cobbled together from Ork technology, were covered in crude turrets, rocket arrays, and humming energy fields.
Their gravitational disturbances had even warped the planets' atmospheres. Storms ravaged the oceans while Ork drop pods crashed down upon cities like torrential rain.
"That's impossible..." one warrior murmured, his voice especially muffled beneath his helmet.
"What is that? How could the Orks build something like this?" Another gripped his Boltgun, his knuckles turning white from the force.
Their home was burning.
Within the Ultramar Core Sector.
Just allowing the Orks to approach their cities was enough to make these Ultramarines' hearts ache.
In the footage, the Ultramarines' defensive formations steadily collapsed beneath the Orks' overwhelming firepower. Orbital defense platforms exploded one after another, becoming burning wreckage that fell toward the surface.
Ork warships blotted out the stars like a swarm of locusts, and even more unsettlingly, those Battle Moons did not seem to be mere weapons of war.
The Battle Moons would destroy entire planets, extract useful materials from them, and spray the excess matter toward the ships.
The captain roared, his voice echoing through the communication channel. "What kind of joke is this?!"
"We must warp back immediately to reinforce them!" an old veteran bellowed, his power fist humming with rage. "Every second we delay means brothers are dying!"
"All personnel, prepare for battle," he ordered. "After translation, every available gunship and assault craft will immediately form an advance force and force their way into the atmosphere. We will not let the Orks defile our home, even if we must fight to the last man."
The Ultramarines growled in unison, their vows echoing through the communication channel.
"For the Emperor! For the Primarch!"
They would not wait.
They would not retreat.
With steel and fury, they would reclaim their world.
The Orks' Battle Moons had already descended upon Macragge, and in the blink of an eye, the galaxy had been drowned beneath a green tide.
But soon, their burning passion was doused by a bucket of cold water.
The Chapter Master, current lord of Macragge, Saul the Unyielding, joined the channel.
