Background / History

Chen Xiaoxia first befriended Yu Muqiu after defending her from bullies. She declared that she would protect Yu Muqiu and later tutored her so they could attend Spring City High School together. This established Xiaoxia’s enduring self-image as Yu Muqiu’s “big sister” and protector. 101

After Yu Muqiu became a magical girl, Xiaoxia accepted Nino’s contract without hesitation so she could continue fighting at her friend’s side. In early battles, she consistently charged first, relying on a will to become stronger after every setback. 101

Yu Muqiu’s Shining Form changed their balance. Xiaoxia was happy for her friend, but privately feared that Yu Muqiu’s growth would leave her unable to protect—or even stand beside—her anymore. 77 101

Her bravado conceals deep insecurity. Much of her pride comes from believing that protecting Yu Muqiu is her duty; when that role seems threatened, she becomes reckless and refuses help even against clearly superior enemies. 100 101

She is also fiercely loyal and emotionally direct. Xiaoxia immediately rushes toward apparent danger to save her friends, later recognizes when her boasting has hurt Xiao Chun, and accepts that the group’s deception during the Shining Form Project was meant to prepare her for real danger. 103 107 109

Xiaoxia’s determination can become self-destructive. Her desire to defeat Xiao Bai even once leads her to create an explosive trump card that harms herself as well as her opponent, and she is repeatedly criticized for treating self-destruction as a solution. 256 406 667

The Songstress Witch incapacitates Xiaoxia along with the other magical girls. When the group later coordinates against the Witch, Xiaoxia contributes a crucial greatsword strike that severs its arms and prevents its escape. 49 52

Shining Form Project

Unable to accept Yu Muqiu’s growing strength, Xiaoxia challenges Xiao Bai and is defeated effortlessly. Her insecurity worsens after dreams show her an idealized future where she leads the magical girls, surpasses Xiao Bai, and fights beside Yu Muqiu in Shining Form. 85 92 99

Xiao Bai, Xiao Chun, Yu Muqiu, and the others stage a demon attack to force Xiaoxia to awaken safely. Rivalry with Xiao Bai

Wanting Xiao Bai to stop concealing burdens from the group, Xiaoxia challenges her to a duel with the condition that the loser must grant the winner one request. Xiao Bai remains overwhelmingly stronger, but Xiaoxia refuses to concede and reveals an unstable self-destructive trump card. 255 256

The resulting explosion injures both girls and makes Xiaoxia confront how far her obsession with winning has pushed her. Afterward, she admits that she could not bear being left behind by Xiao Bai, while Xiao Bai apologizes for the way she initially criticized the dangerous technique. 256 258

Shining 2 and the Demon War

In the Sky Screen future, Xiaoxia protects Yu Muqiu when she cannot unlock Shining 2, fusing the Hope connected through the Magic Network into her Emotion Seed and undergoing a further transformation. 397

She formally awakens Shining 2 while the Paranoid Demon threatens to execute both her and Xiao Chun. Her evolved Enhancement Magic allows her to resist the Demon’s debilitating effects and fight at a vastly higher level. 405

Xiaoxia later breaks free of the Desire Demon’s mental attack in Shining 2 and counterattacks in a cloak-and-cape manifestation of the form. 578 During the battle against the War Demon, she uses Courage Light to shield Yu Muqiu and combines their powers to cancel the Demon’s attack. 613

Demon King Confrontation

After Yu Muqiu’s death in the projected future, Xiaoxia accepts responsibility for protecting the remaining Magical Girls and chooses to confront the Demon King to buy time for their escape. 689
