Background

Identity and early activity

Xiao Bai is the magical-girl identity assumed by Fang Ming. His transformed appearance differs so greatly from his original body that the Federation cannot connect the two, leaving Xiao Bai effectively untraceable despite the Sky Screen’s exposure of other magical girls. She is also the first known magical girl not contracted with Nino. 11 58

She initially operates alone in Rock City, treating it as her territory and attempting to drive Yu Muqiu, Chen Xiaoxia, and Murong Xiaochun away from supernatural dangers. Her hostility is rooted in protectiveness: she rescues Xiao Chun from the Speed Demon and repeatedly warns the others that fighting Demons can cost them their lives. 12 23 24

Xiao Bai rejects both government oversight and Yu Muqiu’s invitation to join the group, insisting that she does not need help. Her harshness is fundamentally protective. She believes inexperienced magical girls should not be allowed near Demons, but eventually accepts that she cannot stop them from fighting forever. Rather than abandon them, she becomes a trainer and strategist determined to make them stronger. 24 113
