Nature and Dao Path

“Qi is the breath of heaven and earth. To gather it is not to seize it by force, but to sense it through emptiness and stillness...” 12

True Qi is gathered through a Qi-Collection Method and assimilated after completing Qi Nourishment and forming a Mystic Spirit Body. Consuming a compatible strand enables Qi Assimilation and Dao Initiation, turning a mortal into a genuine cultivator of the Qi-Ingesting Realm. 3 12 73

• A cultivator’s first assimilated True Qi determines their Dao path permanently; it must match their fate alignment. 13
• Cultivation methods may be replaced later, but the True Qi used to enter the Dao cannot be changed. 60 64
• The higher the grade of assimilated True Qi, the greater the cultivator’s long-term potential. 39 60
• True Qi can also nourish cultivation directly, though doing so consumes the gathered Qi itself. Jiang Ran’s Ice-Lake Spirit-Water Qi lost nearly one-third of its volume while accelerating his spiritual-power growth. 20

Classification

True Qi is further described as having nine grades and twenty-seven ranks, though some texts use alternate systems with twenty-eight ranks or ten grades. 60

Collection and Formation

Qi-Collection Methods

Qi-Collection Methods guide a cultivator in sensing and gathering compatible True Qi from suitable environments. They are comparatively easy to obtain; the true difficulty lies in finding the required spiritual lands, materials, and conditions. 25 61

• A Qi-Collection Method may also function similarly to Spirit Control, allowing the user to isolate water-elemental spiritual essence. 24 25
• Gathering is measured cumulatively: one hundred strands form a thread, one hundred threads form a bundle, and one hundred bundles form a stream of True Qi. 25 61 67
• Ordinary mortals may need months or years to gather enough Qi, while Jiang Ran’s access to Tianlu resources allows him to collect fourth-order True Qi far more efficiently. 67
• Collection requirements become drastically harsher with higher grades. Ice-Lake Spirit-Water Qi requires an extremely cold Icebound Spirit Lake, while Heavenly-River Source-Guarding Qi normally requires a major cultivator capable of drawing down starlight. 25 61 64

Fate Compatibility

A person’s fate determines which elemental True Qi they can safely cultivate. The Hundred Yue Sect uses the Five-Elements Spirit Disc to identify this alignment before granting a corresponding cultivation art and strand of True Qi. 12 13

• Jiang Ran’s fate is Ren Water, allowing him to cultivate water-lineage True Qi such as Ice-Lake Spirit-Water Qi and Ten-Thousand-Waters Rushing-Flow Qi. 13 64
• Attempting to cultivate incompatible True Qi can be fatal; a Geng Metal-aligned miner is warned against using his family’s Bing Fire True Qi. 13
• A higher-grade but incompatible True Qi is therefore less useful than a compatible one. 13 39

Hundred Yue Sect Exploitation

The Hundred Yue Sect distributes seventh-tier True Qi and corresponding cultivation methods to miners and farmers, presenting them as opportunities for cultivation. 12 13

• Exceptional recipients may successfully assimilate the Qi and become sect disciples. 59 76
• Most recipients instead become vessels that nourish their granted True Qi with human qi. 83
• The resulting Jade Harmony True Qi is harvested to refine Perfect Jade Spirit Liquid, which raises Qi Assimilation success rates and mitigates failure injuries. 82 83
