Background / History
Chun-Li grew up in Hong Kong and inherited her martial-arts foundation from her father, Tong Ang. Her training follows the Hung Gar Iron Wire Fist tradition, while her father’s friendship with the assassin-fist master Gen gave her access to techniques such as the Assassination Kick. Her principal specialties are qigong and leg techniques. 169
She became a special investigator in the International Police Organization to investigate Shadaloo and rescue Tong Ang. Her pursuit drew Shadaloo’s attention, prompting Vega to send Balrog to eliminate her. 168 171
While pursuing three armed robbers in Hong Kong, Chun-Li met Li Wei after he blocked the criminals’ escape. She subdued all three with Phoenix Wing Fan, identified herself, and took his statement. 167 Li Wei later asked her to teach him martial arts; although she initially prioritized her Shadaloo investigation, she began training him in basic punches, kicks, spacing, and counters. 168 169 170
Balrog attacked Chun-Li at her home after she continued investigating Shadaloo. She fought him fiercely, but Li Wei intervened before Balrog could harm her and captured him for interrogation. Balrog’s information revealed the scale of Shadaloo’s criminal network, its Four Kings, and Vega’s clone program. 171
Chun-Li learned that Tong Ang had been taken by Sagat and was likely dead. Though enraged, she chose to arrest Balrog rather than kill him, refusing to become like Shadaloo. 172 Her search then brought her to Red Delta headquarters in London, where she attacked Cammy White—the woman she believed had taken her father. After learning that Cammy had lost her memories and had also been victimized by Shadaloo, Chun-Li gradually let go of her hatred. 173 174 175 176
She accompanied Li Wei, Cammy, and the freed Twelve Months members to Shadaloo’s Southeast Asian base. After confronting Juri Han and beginning a rivalry with her, Chun-Li infiltrated the base and fought alongside Cammy against Vega. Vega’s psychic power overwhelmed them until Li Wei intervened and killed him, ending Shadaloo’s leadership. 180 181 182 184
Following Shadaloo’s fall, Chun-Li traveled with Li Wei’s group to Heavenly Palace and Herta Space Station. She declined Alexia’s proposed enhancement serum, as examinations found her already in excellent physical condition. 185 186 She later joined missions to Alfheim and the Black Order’s territory, fighting Outriders alongside Jill Valentine. 212 217 220 By Chapter 301, she was working at Future Technology Company. 301
Appearance
Chun-Li is a 1.70-meter-tall Chinese woman with a balanced, athletic build shaped by extensive martial-arts training. 169
- Long black hair worn in signature twin buns; the remaining length reaches her waist. 167
- Commonly wears a blue kung fu qipao or blue training qipao. 167 169
- Wears dark stockings or heavy black pantyhose as part of her usual outfit. 167 169
- Has notably muscular, well-defined thighs. 167 172
- Wears protective gear around her wrists while on duty. 167
Personality
Chun-Li is disciplined, courageous, and deeply committed to protecting civilians. She intervened against Juri Han specifically to save a family endangered by gunfire, even though doing so provoked Juri into challenging her. 181
Her investigation of Shadaloo is driven by grief and anger over Tong Ang’s disappearance, but she remains governed by her principles. Despite wanting revenge on Balrog, she chose lawful arrest; she also came to forgive Cammy after recognizing that Cammy had been brainwashed and deprived of a life of her own. 172 175
She is competitive in training and serious about martial arts, yet patient enough to instruct Li Wei from the basics. She believes fighters must adapt learned techniques into a style suited to themselves rather than copying another person’s methods outright. 169 170 171
Abilities & Skills
Martial Arts
Chun-Li is an elite fighter whose martial arts combine her father’s teachings, Hung Gar Iron Wire Fist, techniques connected to Gen’s assassination fist, qigong, and highly developed kicking attacks. 169
- Specializes in speed, flowing combinations, and strikes aimed at vulnerable points. 171 184
- Can evade gunfire and overwhelm ordinary armed soldiers in close quarters. 181 183
- Uses combat spacing and baiting tactics, teaching Li Wei to remain just beyond an opponent’s attack range before counterattacking. 170
- Is highly resilient; she recovered quickly enough after her battle with Juri to join the Shadaloo operation the following day. 182
- Her techniques are tailored to her own speed and physique, making them difficult for others to reproduce effectively. 171 174
Qigong
Chun-Li can gather and project qi as visible blue energy waves. Her energy attacks are powerful enough to cause explosive damage when they collide with similarly powerful techniques. 170 174 181
- Qigong Palm / Blue Qigong Palm — Fires a wave of blue qi from her palm. 170 174
- Her qigong can damage enhanced opponents; Juri Han was injured after kicking into Chun-Li’s Qigong Palm. 181

Kicking Techniques
Chun-Li’s strongest martial-arts specialty is her kicking technique. 169
