Background / History

Jiu Li is a Divine Lord whose true body cannot leave the Divine Realm that birthed him. He instead created avatars, including Su Ze and Bai Jiuli, to act beyond it. Their souls are merged yet retain distinct, symbiotic consciousnesses; Jiu Li’s divine incarnation is the strongest of the three 288 289.

During an earlier visit to a ruined world, Jiu Li encountered Shen Yue and an infiltrating Outsider Heavenly Dao. Drawn by karmic ties, he agreed to fulfill Shen Yue’s wish to restart her world in exchange for half of her Godhead. He divided the Godhead, gave one half to the Outsider Heavenly Dao, restored Shen Yue’s younger brother’s soul fragments with the other, and condensed the remaining power into a World Tree Seed 317 318.

Jiu Li also incarnated in Green Hills as an infant during Tribulation Crossing. A golden figure emerged from the baby, compelling witnesses to kneel; he subsequently imposed rules upon Green Hills and promised its people an opportunity for Ascension. Although the child grew without these memories, Green Hills continued to revere him as its most honored Little Highness 235 236.

After Shen Mo’s repeated deaths, Jiu Li recovered the memories and emotions carried by his avatars. He realized only then that he loved Shen Mo, though he still struggled to understand the feelings inherited from Su Ze and Bai Jiuli 288.

Appearance

Jiu Li’s divine manifestation is slender, cold, and imposing. His fox-like purple eyes become clear and luminous with golden divine radiance, giving him an inviolable presence 214.

  • Violet or violet-gold eyes, marked by divine power 214 290
  • White hair in his weakened fox-incarnation form 385 386
  • A golden divine aura that can resemble sunlight when released at full force 488
  • A childlike “Little Jiu Li” form with an icy expression and golden eyes 487 488
  • Bai Jiuli’s incarnation bears nine fox tails and is recognized as Green Hills’ Little Highness 236 345

Personality

Jiu Li was originally detached from mortal suffering and unable to understand resentment, love, or the attachment others felt toward their worlds. He treated divine intervention as a matter of convenience, agreeing to Shen Yue’s bargain with cool practicality and granting additional favors as though they required little effort 317 318.

His bond with Shen Mo gradually exposes emotions he cannot name. He is protective, possessive, and easily troubled when Shen Mo favors Su Ze or Bai Jiuli over him, yet he initially mistakes Shen Mo’s concern for concern directed at his other incarnations 288 303. His care is often blunt and poorly expressed, as shown when he proposes dual cultivation as a solution to Shen Mo’s life-threatening power overload without understanding why Shen Mo objects 288.

As Little Jiu Li, he is guarded and instinctively distrustful of unknown power. However, Shen Mo’s Blue Divine Power evokes a familiarity from before his birth, prompting him to lower his defenses and allow Shen Mo to channel power through him 486.

Abilities & Skills

Divine Power

Jiu Li wields overwhelming golden Divine Power for offense, defense, healing, and large-scale intervention.

  • He melts a corrupted sentient heart with golden power and drives off the Heavenly Dao’s lightning with a single attack 214.
  • He repairs Shen Mo’s shattered Divine Sea and Divine Soul, forming a golden crystal core that advances Shen Mo to Late Golden Core 214.
  • He creates barriers and shields Shen Mo from dangerous phenomena, including the West District’s eye-shaped abyss 293.
  • He channels power into Shen Mo to help contain violent foreign energy, though Shen Mo’s cultivation bottleneck limits how much assistance he can provide 288.
  • He can use divine power to erase memories on a mass scale, removing witnesses’ recollections of an Abyss invasion and Luo Chenshang’s tribulation 488.

Divine Whip

Jiu Li’s primary weapon is a golden Divine Whip.

  • The whip can bind and dissolve corrupted entities 214.
  • Its strikes carry enough force to threaten space itself 303.
  • It leaves corrosive golden wounds on Jiu Yuan, whose black-mist power is naturally opposed to Jiu Li’s 303.
  • The weapon dissipates when Jiu Li no longer has sufficient divine power to sustain it 303.

Avatars and Soul Incarnations

Jiu Li can separate portions of himself into distinct incarnations and consciousnesses.

  • Su Ze and Bai Jiuli are avatars tied to Jiu Li’s soul; each retains a distinct personality despite their fusion 288 289.
  • Jiu Li can take control when his other incarnations are unable to resist him due to his superior Divinity 289.
  • His soul fragment can be forcibly summoned through Su Ze to provide divine strength, but the avatar body cannot withstand the energy for long 429.
  • He promises Shen Mo that, after reuniting with his main body, he will send another avatar to find him 429.

Karma, World Restoration, and Divine Judgment

Jiu Li can perceive karmic connections and alter the fate of worlds.

  • He senses Shen Mo’s karmic connection as stronger than the bond he detects with the Outsider Heavenly Dao fragment 215.
  • He uses karma to judge the Outsider Heavenly Dao’s actions across worlds before deciding to accompany it to investigate its endangered home world 317.
  • He restarts Shen Yue’s world through their Godhead bargain and creates the World Tree Seed that initiates its rebirth 317 318.
  • As a guardian against external Primers, he avoids simply destroying invaders when doing so would collapse the world-shell to which they are attached 486.
