Background / History

The Cloudpiercing Sect was Qingchuan Prefecture’s strongest power a century before the present story. Its exceptional strength became a source of decline: its seven great courts fell into destructive internal conflict, badly weakening the sect’s standing. The resulting lesson shaped its modern culture of strict rules and emphasis on unity. 49 53 125

Despite its decline, the sect retained extensive grounds, a deep accumulation of manuals and treasures, and authority over nineteen cities in Qingchuan Prefecture. Its mountain complex is several times larger than the Mountain-Shaking Sect’s, though its weed-covered paths and sparse population visibly reflect its reduced circumstances. 53 61 76

Under Sect Leader Shi Songquan, the sect has steadily rebuilt its strength. Its 700th-anniversary celebration publicly displayed all seven court masters, elders, chief disciples, and its enduring institutional foundation. 125 133

Cheng Heng’s rise has further transformed the sect’s standing. His victories over the other sects’ disciples and Mountain-Shaking Sect prodigy Xiao Dongsheng restored the sect’s prestige, while his subsequent Vajra-Force breakthroughs made him the youngest court master in the sect’s history. 130 147 200 204

The Earthcore Lava Cavern contains strange-flame energy that greatly accelerates true-qi cultivation. Its Grade-A cultivation rooms are valuable privileges reserved for high-status disciples or granted as major rewards. 117 159

Its deeper Alien Flame Essence is one of the sect’s seven-century foundations. It can accelerate cultivation, temper the body, and improve physical potential; access was exceptionally opened to the seven chief disciples in preparation for an external challenge. 138 139

The cavern’s strange flames produce Subflames every five years. These are surrendered to the Profound Truth Sect as the price of its protection. 160

Cheng Heng’s status as temporary Fire Vajra Court Master grants him unlimited access to the cavern and its cultivation rooms. 200
