Background / History

The Cloudpiercing Sect was Qingchuan Prefecture’s strongest power a century before the present story. Its exceptional strength became a source of decline: its seven great courts fell into destructive internal conflict, badly weakening the sect’s standing. The resulting lesson shaped its modern culture of strict rules and emphasis on unity. 49 53 125

Despite its decline, the sect retained extensive grounds, a deep accumulation of manuals and treasures, and authority over nineteen cities in Qingchuan Prefecture. Its mountain complex is several times larger than the Mountain-Shaking Sect’s, though its weed-covered paths and sparse population visibly reflect its reduced circumstances. 53 61 76

Under Sect Leader Shi Songquan, the sect has steadily rebuilt its strength. Its 700th-anniversary celebration publicly displayed all seven court masters, elders, chief disciples, and its enduring institutional foundation. 125 133
