The Demon Descends

Edward took a deep breath and walked toward the door at the end of the corridor.

"Knock, knock, knock."

He raised his hand and knocked three times, neither too hard nor too softly.

A lazy voice came from behind the door.

"Who is it?"

"Me."

Edward's voice was low, heavy as stone.

The door opened. Lily stood there in pajamas, rubbing her eyes, looking utterly groggy.

"Brother? Is something wrong this late at night?"

She stepped aside to let Edward in.

Edward slipped inside in a flash.

Bang!

He locked the door behind him.

Lily jumped at the sound and looked at him in confusion.

Edward spun around, his eyes locking onto her like searchlights.

Then he shouted in a booming voice.

"Bold demon!"

"I could tell at a glance that you weren't human!"

"Reveal your true form at once!"

Lily tilted her head, her face full of question marks.

"Brother, have you been watching some weird anime again?"

Edward curled his lip, not even bothering to play along with her.

Like lightning, he pulled something from his pocket.

The Pure Silver Cross!

Under the dim light, the cross gleamed with a bone-chilling silver radiance.

The confusion vanished from Lily's face in an instant.

Her face turned deathly pale, whiter than the paint on the wall.

Fear—fear from the depths of her soul—exploded in her pupils.

"Aaaahhh—!"

She let out a shriek sharp enough to pierce eardrums.

"Take it away!"

"Get that away from me!"

In the instant Edward froze at her reaction—

A wave of black energy erupted violently from Lily's body!

Lily's eyes changed.

They became savage, bestial, and reeking of blood.

Grinding her teeth, she spoke one word at a time, her voice seeming to rise from Hell.

"So... you... found... out... my dear... brother!"

But Edward laughed, a little crazily.

"Now that's more like it!"

He roared and struck an impressively cool pose.

Edward stood sideways to Lily, one arm extended straight out, his index finger pointing forward. His expression was solemn and intimidating.

"Use Purification Power!"

Before the words had even faded, he lunged forward and grabbed Lily by the collar.

He actually lifted her entire body into the air with one hand!

Lily's feet kicked wildly in midair, the ferocity on her face instantly turning into shock and disbelief.

"What kind of joke is this?! Are you a demon yourself, you bastard? Σヽ(ﾟДﾟ;)ﾉ?"

Blue-white Purifying Light burst from Edward's hand, engulfing Lily like flames.

"Ahh—! It's so hot! It hurts!"

Lily screamed miserably, her body twisting in agony like a fish thrown into a frying pan.

"No! Spare me! Please!"

"I'll do anything! Anything!"

"Who exactly are you?"

Edward's voice was cold as ice.

"Why did you possess my sister?"

"It's not possession..."

Amid the searing Purification, Lily forced out a few words through clenched teeth.

"I... descended in the flesh... This is my body..."

"I only recently... regained my power..."

Edward frowned.

"What exactly are you?"

"I'm... not... a thing. I'm a demon!"

"What's your name?"

Lily clamped her mouth shut, refusing to speak.

She howled in pain, her features twisted together.

"My name is Malkis!"

Edward dug at his ear, looking utterly baffled.

"What the hell? Spicy shredded chicken?"

"It's Malkis!!"

Malkis trembled with rage, nearly losing her breath.

"Oh, oh, fine, fine, got it, Jisi."

Edward nodded perfunctorily.

[Would you like to take her as a pet?]

A system prompt suddenly appeared before his eyes.

Without a second thought, Edward chose "Yes" with his mind.

A red collar appeared out of thin air and snapped around Lily's neck. Then it flashed and vanished.

Malkis froze. She touched her neck, but there was nothing there.

Yet a feeling of restraint from deep within her soul made her collapse instantly.

"What did you do to me?! What did you do to a noble demon?!"

She struggled wildly.

Smack!

A crisp, resounding slap echoed out.

Edward slapped her expressionlessly, Purification's faint glow still lingering on his hand.

The entire room fell silent.

Malkis was stunned by the blow. Her head hung crookedly to one side, her face filled with terror.

Edward withdrew his hand and stared at her coldly.

"What do you call me?"

Malkis shuddered. A fawning smile immediately spread across her face, her change of expression faster than turning a page.

"Master! Everything you say is right!"

Edward released her and let her fall to the floor.

He felt a little uncomfortable. His adorable little sister was actually a demon called "Jisi."

"Jisi."

Edward crouched down, pinching his chin as he examined her.

"What can you do?"

"Reporting to Master!"

Malkis immediately sat obediently on her knees.

"My abilities are creating fear, absorbing fear, creating illusions, and bewitching people's hearts!"

After hearing that, Edward wore a look of complete disdain.

"That's it?"

"Jisi, your abilities are pretty pathetic."

"If you ran into someone brave, wouldn't you be useless right away?"

"With just that little skill, would anyone really go to such lengths to bring you into the human world? You aren't lying to me, are you, Jisi?"

As he spoke, a ball of blue-white Purifying Light slowly lit up in his palm like a tiny sun.

Malkis was scared out of her wits and waved her hands repeatedly.

A pitiful, ingratiating smile instantly appeared on her face.

"Brother~ I'm so cute. How could I possibly lie to you?"

Smack!

Another slap.

Louder and harder.

"Speak properly!"

Edward's voice brimmed with undisguised anger and authority.

Malkis covered the other side of her face and turned away miserably, tears welling in her eyes.

She no longer dared to act cute. In a brisk, report-like tone, she said:

"Master! My abilities are very powerful! Creating fear can disrupt the mind; even people with strong willpower will be affected!"

"As long as they are afraid, I can absorb their fear and grow stronger!"

"My illusions can pass falsehood off as truth, making them useful for sneak attacks or trapping enemies!"

"Bewitchment can directly control targets with weak willpower and make them serve me!"
