Before transmigrating, Yu Xiaogang was a university professor specializing in biological breeding. After arriving in Douluo Continent, he spent six years researching Martial Soul bloodlines and hunted a flying Soul Beast with a trace of Dragon Clan bloodline, enabling Luo Sanpao's first evolution. 5

He came to Holy Soul Village intending to observe Tang San, having concluded that Blue Silver Grass alone could not account for Innate Full Soul Power. Luo Sanpao instead detected an unusual spatial aura from Xu Zhou's Black Ancient Book, drawing Yu Xiaogang's attention to Xu Zhou. 5 6

Yu Xiaogang misidentified the Black Ancient Book as a closed Spatial Gate containing Xu Zhou's sealed Soul Power. Convinced that Xu Zhou was not talentless, he wrote a formal appraisal certificate, offered to accept him as an apprentice, and arranged for him to enter Nuoding Academy as a special research subject. 5 11 12

Yu Xiaogang is a thin middle-aged man in a gray robe. His temples are streaked with gray, he maintains a straight back, and he usually wears little expression. 4

His own history of ridicule and being dismissed as a failure makes him sympathetic toward Xu Zhou. He genuinely wants to prove that Xu Zhou is not worthless and takes responsibility for giving him access to education and research resources. 5 11
