At dawn, the two young night watchmen really brought back a tableful of breakfast from the soup shop.

"Wake it up and eat together!"

One of the young men carried a roasted bird leg over to the window. The blackout curtain had only been lifted a corner when Hoothoot on the clothes rack opened its red eyes and quietly looked at him.
"Eat before going back to sleep?"
Hoothoot turned its head toward the wall.
Uncle Meng pulled the curtain shut again. "After you finish a night shift, if someone uses two roasted legs to wake you up, would you be willing to get up?"
