Background / History
Lillipup was selected as a potential partner for A-Li, a bread delivery worker. Initially hiding beneath a low stool in the Encounter Room, he cautiously inspected A-Li, her shoes, delivery basket, and a bakery delivery list before accepting a piece of bread scrap. He distinguished the real list from three scentless copies created by Zorua, demonstrating that he relies heavily on smell rather than sight alone. 19
He chose to accompany A-Li on a three-day delivery trial. On the first route, he successfully delivered three orders by smelling bread bags and retained cloth tags, including locating Granny Liu's unmarked house through traces left in A-Li's basket and the sound of the woman's cane. He returned a Copper Soul Coin that Granny Liu tried to give him. 20
After the trial, Lillipup chose to remain at the Pokémon Shop through dinner and claimed a real cushion after detecting Zorua's illusory one. He and A-Li then became the first applicants to use the new training and care rooms despite A-Li having no soul power. 30 31
Xia Che and Indeedee inspected A-Li's residence before approving it for Lillipup. Lillipup selected a sleeping place beside the door, covered with A-Li's familiar old cloth and positioned near her work shoes. The room was adjusted to block window drafts, secure a water bowl, and clear space around the stove. 33
Following his first night in the new home, Lillipup formally established companionship with A-Li. He selected a Premier Ball whose red ring resembled the cord of his Number One Tag, while making clear that he preferred walking unless rest or safety required otherwise. 35
Appearance
Lillipup is a small brown canine Pokémon with four very short legs and a pale ring of long fur surrounding his face. Even when standing upright, he is shorter than A-Li's delivery basket. 19
- Brown body with pale facial fur. 19
- Long facial fur aids his awareness of nearby scents and surroundings. 19
- Short legs make long routes, hurdles, and stairs physically demanding. 31 33
- Often carries dry grass, flour, or other traces of his routes in his facial fur. 32 35
Personality
Lillipup is cautious, observant, and strongly guided by familiar scents. He does not rush toward strangers, unfamiliar animals, or difficult terrain; instead, he stops near A-Li and waits for her response. 19 20 34
He is independent without being reckless. He chose his own delivery trial, climbed into a smaller basket only after tiring, selected his own sleeping spot and Poké Ball, and later chose the shorter of two offered delivery routes. 20 33 35
Lillipup also shows restraint and self-awareness. During his first training session, he stopped before the white line when tired, rested, then completed the task without crossing it. 31
Abilities & Skills
Scent Tracking
Lillipup possesses an excellent sense of smell, supported by the long fur around his face. 19
- Matches delivery bags to retained cloth tags carrying customers' home scents. 20
- Located Granny Liu's unmarked home by following faint scent traces from A-Li's basket. 20
- Identifies familiar objects, including A-Li's old cloth, work shoes, and his own bedding. 32 33
- Detects scentless illusions created by Zorua. 19 32 35
- Cannot treat scent as infallible; similar smells led him toward the wrong herbal shop during his first official delivery. 36
Delivery Work
Lillipup works alongside A-Li as a bread courier.
- Completed his first three-order trial run, delivering savory, honey, and sugar-free bread while still warm. 20
- Carries and returns cloth tags associated with completed deliveries. 20
- Uses a delivery basket for rest when his legs become tired. 20 36
- Learns routes through a combination of scent, visible signs, directions, and A-Li's guidance. 36
- Will not accept additional work automatically; A-Li asks him before taking new routes or assignments. 35 36
Alertness and Recognition
Lillipup reacts to unfamiliar sounds, scents, and disturbances.
- Alerted A-Li to a loose window shutter with a single bark on his first night at her residence. 34
- Recognizes unsafe or uncomfortable routes, refusing to cross a narrowed alley obstructed by cart repairs and withdrawing from slippery flagstones. 36
- Stops at A-Li's feet around unfamiliar dogs rather than approaching or provoking them. 20 34
- Differentiates a real flour trail from Zorua's scentless illusion of snow. 32
Basic Training
Lillipup was among the first users of the Pokémon Shop's Basic Training Room. 31
- Responds to A-Li's call after checking the area for distractions. 31
- Clears adjustable low hurdles suited to his short legs. 31
- Learned to stop at the white line and to rest before overexertion. 31
- Walks beside A-Li rather than ahead of her when she carries a basket, choosing a position where he can see her feet. 40
Equipment / Items
- Premier Ball — Chosen by Lillipup during his formal registration with A-Li; used for rest, return trips, and brief shelter from hazards such as blocked streets. 35
- Number One Tag — Originally his applicant ticket; punched and tied to his delivery basket as a memento of his first delivery trial. 20 35
- Delivery basket — Used for carrying bread and allowing Lillipup to rest during longer routes. 20 36
- Old cloth — A familiar-scented cloth used in his basket and sleeping area; it helps him feel secure during care procedures and at home. 32 33
Relationships
- A-Li — Partner and delivery companion. She respects his choices about work, rest, routes, food, and Poké Ball use. 19 20 35
- Zorua — Playful acquaintance. Zorua repeatedly tests him with scentless illusions, which Lillipup consistently exposes. 19 30 35
- Pancham — Shop companion who protected Lillipup's first delivery outing from intrusive spectators and helped turn his Number One Tag into a basket tag. 20
- Indeedee — Care-room attendant who helped assess Lillipup's health, comfort, and living space. 31 32 33
- Magby — Training-room companion who sat with Lillipup while he rested before finishing the white-line exercise. 31
- Duskull — An initially unfamiliar acquaintance. Lillipup barked at Duskull's appearance, then waited after Duskull learned to signal with two taps. 29
- Aunt Chen — A-Li's neighbor and initial skeptic. She provided cloth to block the room's window draft after being assured Lillipup would bark only once at night. 33 34
Story Role / Major Arcs
Encounter and Delivery Trial
Lillipup meets A-Li as the first numbered applicant after the shop opens to more ordinary residents. Their initial encounter develops into a three-day delivery trial, during which he proves that a Pokémon's usefulness is not limited to combat. 19 20
Training, Care, and Residence Assessment
Lillipup and A-Li become the first participants in the new training and care rooms. Their lessons focus on stopping when tired, checking his paws after deliveries, and preparing a safe sleeping space rather than pursuing strength alone. 31 33
Formal Partnership and First Job
Lillipup chooses a Premier Ball and officially becomes A-Li's partner, making her the Pokémon Shop's first registered Trainer without soul power. On his first official delivery, he makes navigation mistakes but completes the order safely with A-Li's support and refuses extra work when tired. 35 36
Trivia
- Lillipup's Number One Tag changed from a queue ticket into a keepsake of his first delivery route. 20
- He chose a Premier Ball because its red ring resembled the red cord on his Number One Tag. 35
- He prefers walking during deliveries and treats the Premier Ball as an option for rest or safety, not confinement. 35
- He barked only once during his first night at A-Li's home, responding to a loose window shutter. 34
