Organization

The Eagle Wolf Guard is described as the Great Xuan Dynasty’s strongest external military force. Its members are selected martial artists who follow an elite standard; even its lowest-ranking guards can suppress peak third-rate martial artists. It is regarded as the imperial court’s sharpest blade and is feared across the jianghu. 7 12

Operations and Resources

• The Guard maintains offices in prefecture cities; its Taining Prefecture yamen is described as an imposing headquarters avoided by common people and jianghu figures alike. 31
• Its secret agents operate across Wanzhou and throughout the Great Xuan Dynasty, including among street vendors and beggars. 15
• The Guard uses the Spiritual Scent Technique, a tracking internal art created by one of its Grandmasters. At perfection, it identifies an individual by scent as distinctly as a fingerprint, though lingering scent dissipates over time. 12
• It can issue imperial wanted posters and offer cultivation resources as bounties, including internal arts, martial techniques, and access to Divine Intent Diagrams. 15 23
• Its collection of Divine Intent Diagrams covers many momentum types, allowing practitioners to seek a compatible diagram; such resources are rare even among super-first-rate forces. 23
• The Guard can grant Guest Tokens to trusted external martial artists. Holders receive privileges within Great Xuan and may mobilize local government forces for cooperation. 40 47

Reputation

The jianghu commonly calls the Eagle Wolf Guard the “imperial hounds,” a name ordinarily spoken only in private because of the organization’s feared authority. 7 12

• Killing a Guard is treated as killing an imperial official and challenging the entire court. 15
• No single martial-world force is believed capable of opposing the Guard alone; at least half of the jianghu’s forces would need to unite against the imperial court. 12
• Despite its poor reputation among martial artists, the Guard attracts recruits through abundant cultivation resources and favorable treatment for talented First-rate Martial Artists. 40
• Wanted criminals whose offenses are not severe may receive pardons for joining, but Zhou Qing’s killings of officials and commanders place him beyond such clemency. 40

Conflict with Zhou Qing

Initial pursuit

After Zhou Qing’s identity as a Black Stone County fugitive is exposed, Anqing Prefecture dispatches Profound Wolf Guard Zhao Sheng to apprehend him using the Spiritual Scent Technique. 12

Zhao Sheng confronts Zhou Qing in Qiuye Town and demands his surrender. Zhou Qing kills him in a single exchange despite Zhao Sheng’s peak Second-rate cultivation and Shadowless Sword Technique. 14

The Guard responds by placing Zhou Qing among the top 100 on its wanted list and deploying secret agents across Wanzhou to locate him. 15

Escalation in Anqing and Taining

• Red Wolf Deputy Commander Lin Feng and two Profound Wolf Guards confront Zhou Qing in Black Stone County. Lin Feng and both guards are killed. 18 19
• Zhou Qing’s wanted ranking rises from 100th to 80th after he kills Lin Feng, County Magistrate Lin Yue, and destroys the Zhou Manor. The Guard offers 30,000 taels and a second-rate internal art for reliable information, or a first-rate internal art, first-rate martial technique, and three months’ study of a Divine Intent Diagram for his head. 23
• In Taining Prefecture, Red Wolf Commander Fang Yuan and two deputy commanders pursue Zhou Qing. Fang Yuan and the deputies are killed. 28 29 30
• Zhou Qing then attacks the Taining Eagle Wolf Guard yamen, splitting its plaque and gate with one saber strike, killing Red Wolf Deputy Commander Feng Jun, and entering the headquarters. 31 32
• Blade Catchers Lei Kun, Xu Ning, and Yang Zheng pursue Zhou Qing after the assault. He kills all three in a single blade strike. 32

Later confrontations

While disguised as Duan Shui Liu, Zhou Qing turns in Fire Worship Cult rebel Wang Yan’s corpse at the Qingyan Prefecture yamen. Deputy Commander Zhang does not recognize him and treats him as an honored guest; Zhou Qing later accepts a Guest Token while declining recruitment into the Guard. 39 40

Zhou Qing’s identity is eventually exposed by Crimson Eagle Envoy Lin Ye. Lin Ye and White Wolf Commander Wang Cheng move to arrest him; Lin Ye is killed, and Wang Cheng is subsequently slain after revealing True Gang Realm cultivation. 53 54

Zhou Qing later loots the Yuanzhou Commander’s office treasury. The Imperial Capital responds by dispatching Golden Eagle Envoy Lu Yuan, supported by Crimson and White Eagle Envoys, to lead the pursuit. 55
