A Witch's Mission

After hurrying back to her mansion, Alice immediately began searching through her mother's room for something.

After a great deal of effort, she finally found the book she wanted—a nameless book handwritten by her mother.

It seemed to have been made using some strange method; only Alice or those with Witch bloodlines could see its contents.

Only after opening the book did Alice learn that it had not been written by her mother alone. Or rather, it had been written by all Witches, with her mother merely adding details and her own insights to matters the predecessors had not recorded.

There was no magecraft inside, nor were there any methods for making PLOYs.

There were only her mother's introductions to Witches, along with their own understandings and reflections.

Alice's mother had once told her to read this book when she was little.

But because it had no illustrations and the content was far too dull, Alice had never read it. She had not expected to have to make up for that knowledge now.

When she opened the book, the first page explained the earliest origin of the term "Witch."

Witch was a Christian judgment upon heathens. In Christianity, a Witch referred to a female magic user who harmed humanity and was believed capable of casting malicious magic upon humans.

But that was a mistaken understanding. A woman who used malicious magic on humans was called a Sorceress; she had absolutely nothing to do with a Witch.

There had only ever been one orthodox Witch, a being passed down through a single bloodline who was invariably human.

As for the others who called themselves Witches, they were certainly nonhuman beings who merely appeared humanoid.

They were nothing more than Sorceresses, worlds apart from true Witches.
