Gift
Exquisite fighting skills.
He was incredibly strong, and his reflexes surpassed those of an ordinary person.
Li Zu's hands seemed to have become burdens. No matter which direction he attacked from, the other party saw through it and blocked him. He could not touch him at all.
The last person who had left him this powerless to resist had been Batman.
"You'd better wait here for the police!"
The young man drove a heavy punch into Li Zu's stomach. Only after watching him curl up from the agonizing pain did he straighten up. "I don't have time to waste on you right now!"
With that, the young man quickly got up and left.
The panicked crowd calmed down and formed a circle around Li Zu, who lay sprawled on the ground.
Someone had already called the police.
"Sir, are... are you all right?"
A cautious voice came from beside him. The person was still holding a phone, clearly the one who had made the emergency call.
Perhaps he had not expected Li Zu, who had been knocked to the ground, to remain so alert.
Asking after him in advance was also a bit like covering his ears while stealing a bell.
"Thanks for asking~" Li Zu sat up from the ground. Judging by how much his body swayed, the young man's punch had clearly made him suffer badly.
Bracing his right palm against the ground, Li Zu struggled up into a half-crouch.
He staggered toward the exit. The crowd automatically parted to make way for him. In Gotham, one should never provoke someone who looked mentally unstable.
The police would be here soon?
So what? Was some good Samaritan in this crowd going to step up and knock Li Zu flat again?
In Gotham, the most important thing was not to provoke people who looked mentally unstable.
"Where should I go now?"
Li Zu had lost track of that young man, and with him, the key information about this world.
"He's such a busybody, he must be a superhero. But how do I get you to show yourself again?" He thought of this city's guardian, Batman, the man who would use a gun to kill.
His heart began pounding uncontrollably.
Perhaps there was fear, but there was certainly excitement too.
The faster his heart beat, the more excited he became!
A steady drizzle.
It had begun falling ten minutes ago.
Under the dark clouds, strings of water droplets fell from the eaves of towering buildings.
Black high heels stepped into shallow puddles,
A black umbrella blocked wave after wave of raindrops.
People hurried along, as gloomy as this black city itself.
Among them, a figure in a green suit and yellow Oxford shoes looked terribly out of place, like neon lights intruding into a silent film.
Everything about him clashed with this city.
Li Zu stood at the entrance of a bank, watching the rain fall and drown the city in complete silence.
The security guard at the door stared fixedly at Li Zu. Sweat had already seeped from the right hand gripping his baton.
He whispered something into his radio, keeping his voice low amid his heavy breathing.
In this city, anyone who behaved strangely had to be labeled "extremely dangerous."
Only here could weirdos be more frightening than drunks in alleyways!
More terrifying than armed robbers!
In Gotham, anyone whose behavior was out of the ordinary was a dangerous person.
Li Zu suddenly turned his head.
The guard at the entrance jumped in fright.
In Gotham, guarding a bank was a high-risk job. Even if a supercriminal came to rob the place and he was the first to raise his hands in surrender, there was still a good chance he would be the first to take a few bullets.
"What do you want!" The guard quickly stepped back, then remembered his duty and immediately puffed out his chest as he questioned him.
"What time did the weather forecast say the rain would stop? I've got something urgent to do." Li Zu pointed at the endlessly raining night sky in confusion, like a passerby without an umbrella troubled by the downpour.
The guard let out a huge sigh of relief. The young man in front of him merely seemed to like brightly colored clothes. "This rain came suddenly. It might last a few more hours~"
Once he was sure Li Zu was "mentally normal," the guard relaxed and even took the initiative to chat with him.
Amid the drizzle and thunder.
Their conversation was swallowed by the rain.
"Diana killed Aquaman's woman, Mera, and that triggered World War III."
Li Zu finally had some understanding of the world before him.
He rubbed his chin and nodded seriously. "So the mistress killed the wife, then the man and the mistress went to war, causing a war."
"Yeah. Compared to those superhumans, we're really tiny." The guard nodded in agreement.
"What about Superman?" Li Zu asked.
"Who?" the guard asked in surprise.
"The one in a red cape, whose eyes can shoot heat vision, whose breath can freeze waterfalls, who's invulnerable to blades and bullets, and can fly~" Li Zu scratched the back of his head, searching for words to describe Superman.
Invincible was naturally the most fitting description, but it was too vague.
He tried his best to describe Superman in more detail.
After hearing Li Zu's description, the guard still looked confused. "I've never heard of that person."
"A world without Superman. That's really..."
Beep beep—!!
A car stopped in front of the bank, and the window of the purple-painted sports car rolled down.
A girl with a wide grin, twin ponytails, and an overly excited look waved at Li Zu. "Quick, get in!"
"Me?" Li Zu pointed at himself, puzzled.
"Yeah! Did you forget tomorrow is a special day? We agreed to give Ms. Joker a surprise!!"
"Ms. Joker...?"
He tried hard to remember. It seemed Batman had called Joker "she" as well, but he had not paid much attention at the time.
No matter how crazy this world became, it seemed nothing would surprise him anymore.
Li Zu waved at the bank guard. "Bye-bye~"
Then he ducked into the car through the rain.
The car drove away, leaving only the dumbfounded bank guard behind.
"Joker?"
The young man he had chatted with for dozens of minutes was actually a madman who followed Joker?
It was like taking a stroll before the Grim Reaper. The guard collapsed weakly to the ground.
The purple car swayed forward along the rain-soaked streets, raindrops pattering loudly against the windows.
"Hahahaha!!"
The girl with twin ponytails spun the steering wheel wildly as though she were driving bumper cars at an amusement park.
Pedestrians ahead saw a pair of bright, blinding headlights charging toward them and desperately rolled aside.
Dirty water and mud splashed over them, staining their clothes.
"Hee hee hee!" The girl in the car grew even crazier. She cared nothing for her car, nor for life.
Even on a narrow road, she dared to pull off a beautiful drift.
And the only reason she did it was to watch the ridiculous sight of pedestrians being slapped in the face by the filthy water kicked up by the car.
"Where are we going?" Li Zu could barely restrain himself. He suddenly realized that compared to the girl before him, his uncontrollable "madness" was far more normal.
"To bring Ms. Joker a gift!" the girl answered with a grin.
"What gift?"
"Batman's head!"
