Background / History
Bruce Wayne was born into immense wealth, but witnessing his parents’ murder became the foundation of his hatred of crime. He later attempted to reform Gotham through Wayne Enterprises, only to find himself resisted by shareholders, upper-class interests, and Gotham’s entrenched corruption. His training under the Ninja Master further shaped him into Batman rather than a conventional corporate reformer. 6 68 198
As Batman, he became Gotham’s nocturnal enforcer: an apparently ordinary human whose equipment, stealth, combat ability, and relentless presence made criminals fear him as a supernatural figure. His methods sharply reduced ordinary crime, though Gotham’s surviving criminals became increasingly extreme and destructive. 5 107 231
Batman’s first encounter with Lynn began with mutual suspicion. He quickly recognized Lynn as a dangerous and unpredictable metahuman, yet judged him non-hostile to Gotham for the time being. Their relationship developed from wary information exchange into an uneasy friendship. 5 6 9
Appearance
Batman typically wears black armored combat suits designed around a bat motif, with a cape that can spread like wings and a cowl leaving only his chin exposed. He maintains numerous specialized versions of the suit for different missions and threats. 5 167 171
- Black cowl, cape, and armored body suit.
- Bat-themed symbol, vehicles, weapons, and surveillance equipment. 174
- Deep, distinctive voice used as part of his intimidation. 5
- Specialized armor variants include lightweight, heavy-duty, defensive, surveillance-linked, and Anti-@@REF_ENTITY_16178910@@ models. 171
Personality
Batman is intensely rational, suspicious, and self-controlled. He evaluates people as possible threats even when he trusts them, records the abilities and weaknesses of other heroes, and develops countermeasures against allies such as Lynn. To him, preparation is not opposed to friendship; it is how he survives it. 19 108 186
His moral center is defined by a refusal to kill humans, though that restraint does not make him gentle. He routinely incapacitates criminals through severe force, and during Gotham’s collapse he deliberately embraced fear over public respect, leaving attackers permanently injured without taking their lives. 174 221 224 225
Despite his solitary habits, Batman is capable of deep trust. He relies on Gordon, Alfred, and eventually a wider circle of heroes, repeatedly placing himself in danger to protect Gotham and the people around him. 20 24 212 296

Story Role / Major Arcs
Court of Owls Crisis
Batman uncovered the Court of Owls’ connection to Gotham’s historical corruption, but was captured and driven toward collapse in the Underground Labyrinth. Lynn reached him before he could use a self-destructive tactic, restoring his clarity and helping him escape. 19 21 22
Pact with Lynn
After Lynn survived a destructive encounter with a demon, Batman revealed himself as Bruce Wayne and sought a direct answer about Lynn’s loyalty. They formed an “offensive and defensive alliance,” acknowledging that either might kill the other if the other became deserving of it. 29
Green Lantern Selection
The Green Lantern Ring chose Bruce over Lynn. Bruce mastered its power almost immediately, testing both its limits and his own identity before accepting that the ring had not changed who he was. 185
Justice League Formation
Batman began organizing a team after repeated crises proved that individual heroism was insufficient. He recruited heroes selectively, judged their character through observation, and built the League around independence, preparation, and complementary abilities. 286 288 296 322
Bat-Lynn and Trigon
During Trigon’s assault, Batman trusted Lynn’s unexplained plan and fused with him through a golden earring, creating Bat-@@REF_ENTITY_16178910@@. The fusion wielded a Green Lantern–enhanced mech and defeated Trigon, but the process exhausted both men and left them vulnerable to capture afterward. 216 217 220
Gotham’s Collapse
After the Trigon crisis, Gotham turned against its heroes. Batman returned to patrol while physically exhausted and increasingly embraced fear as his means of restoring order. Lynn ultimately defeated and removed him from the streets, ending his uncontrolled crackdown. 224 225 226
Hush’s Impersonation Plot
Thomas Elliot deduced Batman’s identity, captured Bruce, and attempted to replace him by surgically taking Bruce’s face. Batman endured captivity until Lynn and Barbara arrived; afterward, Bruce publicly separated himself from Batman while Lynn used Hush as a fake Batman in a public humiliation scheme. 233 234 237 240
