The Shrewd Ollivander Family
"That's not right. Why are all these wands afraid of you?" Ollivander looked at Lester with some suspicion and said, "This should only happen to ruthless dark wizards, but you're just an 11-year-old child."
Lester: "..."
"Or, just give me any wand, I can use any of them, I'm not picky," Lester said, interrupting Ollivander's thoughtful expression. He was afraid the old man would deduce something from the wand again.
Do you think he'll wipe out his entire family, or just his entire family?
Ollivander, unaware that he had just walked a path to the gates of hell, was enraged upon hearing Lester's words.
"This is Ollivander's Wand Shop. My family's wands are found throughout the entire British Wizarding World. Don't worry, we're sure to find a wand that suits you here!"
As he spoke, Ollivander's temper flared up. "It's just a wand! Our family has been around for thousands of years, what kind of wand haven't we seen?"
The wands currently displayed in the shop, apart from the one Harry Potter is holding, which was pre-arranged by Dumbledore, are all mass-produced wands made by Dumbledore himself. The truly good wands are all kept in the inner vault!
Ollivander, in a fit of pique, lightly tapped the empty wall beside him. The wall then rapidly receded to the sides, revealing the wand vault within.
"Come, Mr. Bide, try this wand. It's a legendary wand that I made during my travels in Africa, with the shaft of Africa elephant wood and the core of Dragon Turtle's nerve."
As it turned out, the wand Ollivander had described as the most powerful in the entire Wizarding World, and with a gentle wave of Lester's hand, unsurprisingly, the wand submitted once again.
"Perhaps this wand is not suitable for this era." Ollivander looked at the wand he had carefully crafted, a glint in his eyes, and hurriedly and carefully took another wand from the wall.
"This is a wand that my father made during his travels in Northern Europe, using birch wood and Thunderbird feathers as the core."
Lester: "..."
For some reason, he felt that this wand wasn't quite right for him.
Sure enough, this wand, which also had an incredibly impressive origin, lost its dignity once again in Lester's hands and submitted to Lester.
"Try this one, the legendary wand crafted by my grandfather..."
"This is the invincible magic wand made by my great-grandfather."
"It seems I have no choice but to bring out my most treasured possession—my great-great-grandfather's masterpiece."
Half an hour later, Lester was surrounded by wands. No matter how impressive the wand's origin, it had no effect on Lester and succumbed to Lester in less than a second.
After another failed match, Ollivander's expression turned serious. He turned to Hagrid and Harry, who had been watching the spectacle, and said, "You might need to avoid the next wand match."
Harry and Hagrid nodded immediately to show they understood and obediently retreated outside.
"Lester, we'll be waiting for you at the Owl Shop," Hagrid told Lester in a high-pitched voice before leaving.
Hagrid had complete peace of mind about Ollivander, the old man whose wands were found throughout the Wizarding World. He wasn't afraid that Ollivander would plot against Lester, after all, Ollivander had that kind of reputation, and Hagrid had no reason to doubt him.
When Hagrid and Harry arrived, Lester's expression turned serious; he knew the main event was about to begin.
In fact, Lester sensed something was wrong with Ollivander Ollivander moment he led them into this hidden Chamber of Secrets.
Just like Lester said, he can use any wand anyway, so why not just give him any one?
As for the claim that it would tarnish Ollivander's reputation, don't be ridiculous. Their family has been selling wands for thousands of years and is already a well-established brand. How could a mere child not having a matching wand tarnish Ollivander's reputation?
However, Ollivander persisted in his search for a wand, even going so far as to use his family's treasury to retrieve a precious wand crafted by his ancestors.
Lester is no longer a child. Nothing in this world is a given, and there's no such thing as a free lunch.
Ollivander did this for one purpose only: to invest in himself using his wand.
The Ollivander Family has been able to survive for thousands of years not only because of their wand-making skills, but also because of their extensive network of connections.
It wasn't that Lester was being presumptuous; it was quite obvious that Ollivander was doing this to cultivate a good relationship with him.
It's like he deliberately sold Voldemort's wand with the same Phoenix Feather to Harry Potter for only 7 Galleon —wasn't that Dumbledore begging for his attention?
Otherwise, Ollivander would really be a fool to sell such a powerful wand to some other junior wizard so easily?
"Mr. Bide, I'm sorry, the wand I made may not be one you can use," Ollivander said apologetically.
"However, our Ollivander Family has a history spanning thousands of years, and our family treasury contains countless precious wands, all of which were treasured by my ancestors."
"These wands are different from the ones I sell outside. They have a long history and possess great power, which is why they were collected by my ancestors."
"Then how do I get them?" Lester asked knowingly, giving Ollivander a way to get to the point.
"As you know, although my family has always sold wands in Diagon Alley, we have always been one of the Sacred Twenty-Eight. The reason we have been able to continue to this day, besides our family's wand-making technology, is our family's investment ability."
"So, Mr. Bide, although you are only 11 years old, I can see the powerful magic and ambition within you. Therefore, I can give you a wand that is most suitable for you in exchange for your future protection of our Ollivander Family."
Lester: "..."
Lester had considered all sorts of possible explanations from Ollivander, but he never expected Ollivander to be so blunt with him.
Because they recognized their own strength and ambition, they decided to invest in themselves while they were still weak.
Is this the magnanimity of a powerful clan?
Lester was secretly amazed by Ollivander's boldness; he had actually invested in him with the family's precious wand simply because he recognized his talent. Wasn't that a bit too hasty?
It seems the seemingly ordinary Ollivander Family in the original books is actually quite remarkable. Unfortunately, old man Ollivander made the wrong investment in Dumbledore early on, which led to the shops being shut down after Voldemort's resurrection.
But now, it seems Ollivander made the right bet.
