History

Mountain-Breaking Fist was carried in an oilcloth bundle alongside the Basic Stance Art and approximately twenty taels of silver. Zhou Yan recovered the bundle from the corpse of a brocade-robed martial artist in a ruined temple on Blackwind Ridge, then concealed both manuals from his family and village 3 4.

The technique was the Azure Cloud Gang’s closely guarded fist art. Lei Bao recognized Zhou Yan’s stance during the Blackwind Ridge conflict and concluded that the missing young gang leader, Zhao Mo, had died and his manual had fallen into Zhou Yan’s hands 10. Zhao Xiong later searched Blackwind Ridge and Qingyun County for the missing manual, believing an outsider had looted it after Zhao Mo was killed 20 34.

Because its injury pattern could be identified, Zhou Yan initially kept the art hidden. He nevertheless used it to murder He Song, Fang Jin, and Wang Si, deliberately directing suspicion toward the Azure Cloud Gang 19 20. The technique remained his secret trump card through his time at Mountain-Suppressing Martial Hall, where he publicly relied on Mountain-Suppressing Fist instead 17 38.

By the time Zhou Yan confronted Azure Cloud Gang searchers, Mountain-Breaking Fist had reached Perfection and could injure stronger Qi-Gathering opponents despite differences in inner qi 35. It later surpassed Perfection, allowing Zhou Yan to defeat Zhao Xiong with a perfected understanding of the same art Zhao Xiong had trained for decades 46 48.
