Bringing Bao'er Home

The Fang Family of Hang City was one of Jiangnan's prominent clans.

Most people might have felt proud and honored to be a member of such an illustrious family, but Zuo Yi had no fondness for the Fang Family, much less any sense of belonging.

As for Fang Chengping, ever since that cold-blooded man had abandoned his wife and child to start a new family, Zuo Yi had been too ashamed to even mention him.

Zuo Yi could not be bothered to listen to his babbling. He turned and walked out of the administrative hall.

Fang Chengdong hurried after him and prattled on, "Jiahao's words might not have sounded pleasant, but he has a point. We're doing this for your sake. No matter what, we're still family. Would we really cheat you?"

Zuo Yi was so angry that he laughed.

After not seeing him for three or four years, the shamelessness of this uncle of his had practically grown exponentially. Not only could he tell lies that would fool only kindergarten children with perfect conviction, he even wore an expression as though everything he did was for Zuo Yi's own good.

Zuo Yi felt sick at the thought of wasting another word on someone like him.

Ignoring him completely, he got onto his Harley and sped away in a cloud of dust.

Watching Zuo Yi's retreating figure, Fang Chengdong's face darkened.

"Dad..."

Fang Jiahao came over and said unwillingly, "Are we just going to let this go? That bastard is getting off far too easily!"

As he spoke, he spat viciously onto the ground. "Damn it, he had to come back at a time like this. Why didn't he just die out there?"

"How could it possibly be that easy?"

Fang Chengdong said darkly, "The land attached to the Zuo Family Old Residence is worth at least a billion now. He wants to keep it all for himself? He'll choke on it!"

Fang Jiahao swallowed. "Then what do we do now?"

"We'll talk after we get back."

Although Zuo Yi knew the Fang Family well enough to understand that Fang Chengdong and his son would never let this go, he did not take the matter to heart. It simply was not worth it.

Every time he went, he brought her a gift and played her favorite game of Chinese checkers with her. Their relationship quickly became close and intimate.

Bao'er had fully accepted the fact that she had a father, and she was happy about it.

Likewise, Zuo Yi had adapted to the reality of having a daughter in his life.

He felt just as delighted and joyful.

On the morning of Zuo Yi's sixth day back on Blue Star, he received a call from Wang Juan. "Mr. Zuo, the results of your paternity test with Bao'er are out. Can you come over now?"

Teacher Wang's voice was brimming with joy. It was clearly good news.

Zuo Yi had known the result long ago, but Teacher Wang's happiness infected him at that moment. Smiling, he said, "I'll be right there!"

After ending the call, he said to Sun Qiang, who was diligently practicing the Body Tempering Art, "Practice by yourself..."

The chubby boy obediently replied, "Okay, Teacher."

The other file concerned the termination of Zuo Bao'er's childcare enrollment and required Zuo Yi's signature.

Manager Zhang asked with a smile, "Will you be taking the child home now, or...?"

"Now."

Zuo Yi answered without hesitation, "I'm taking Bao'er home."

"Certainly."

Manager Zhang gestured to Wang Juan.

Before long, Wang Juan brought Bao'er out.

"Daddy!"

The moment she saw Zuo Yi, Bao'er's eyes curved into crescents as she rushed straight toward him.

Zuo Yi scooped the little girl into his arms.

The joy in his heart was beyond words, and he could not help saying, "Sweetheart, Daddy is taking you home!"

Bao'er nodded. "Mm!"

Wang Juan also brought out a Hello Kitty suitcase, which she handed to Zuo Yi. It contained Bao'er's clothes and daily necessities.

There was also the large white teddy bear Zuo Yi had originally bought for Bao'er.

There was rather a lot of luggage, so Zuo Yi had no choice but to put Bao'er down first and sign the two files.

Wang Juan sometimes thought that if her future child could be even half as pretty and well-behaved as Bao'er, she would be utterly content!

Bao'er obediently said, "I'll listen. I'm a good girl."

For some reason, Wang Juan suddenly wanted to cry. Her eyes reddened. "Mm!"

Zuo Yi returned the files he had just signed to the lawyer and said, "Teacher Wang, thank you for taking such good care of Bao'er."

Wang Juan hurriedly stood up and smiled. "It's what I should do. It's part of my responsibility."

Zuo Yi bent down and took Bao'er's little hand. "Bao'er, let's say goodbye to Teacher Wang."

Bao'er waved her little hand. "Goodbye, Teacher Wang."

"Goodbye."

After bidding farewell to Wang Juan, Zuo Yi left the childcare center with Bao'er's hand in one hand, while carrying the large white teddy bear and pulling the suitcase with the other.

Back downstairs, Zuo Yi hailed a taxi by the roadside.

He had parked the Harley in an unnoticed corner on the way over, then quietly stored it inside his Spatial Ring.

Fortunately, his Spatial Ring had several dozen cubic meters of storage space. Otherwise, it really would not have been easy to fit it inside.

Half an hour later, the taxi came to a smooth stop in front of the Riverside Town old residence.

After paying the fare, Zuo Yi brought Bao'er and the luggage out of the taxi.

Standing before the front gate, Bao'er looked around. Her large, dark eyes were filled with curiosity and wonder.

"Sweetheart..."

Zuo Yi said with a smile, "This will be your home from now on. Our home!"

As he spoke, he took out his key and opened the courtyard gate.

It was as though he had opened the gate to a brand-new world for the little girl before him!

"Come in!"

Carrying the suitcase and the large white teddy bear, Zuo Yi let Bao'er walk into the old residence herself.

"Wow."

The little girl walked into the courtyard somewhat dazedly, then let out a soft cry at the sight before her.

She turned to Zuo Yi and said, "Daddy, our home is so big!"

Zuo Yi smiled. "Do you like it?"

Bao'er tilted her head and thought about it, then nodded anyway—she had to give Daddy some face.

Zuo Yi chuckled. "Come on, Daddy will take you to see your room first."

He brought the little girl to the specially decorated room on the third floor.

Setting the suitcase aside and placing the large white teddy bear on the bed, Zuo Yi said, "Sweetheart, what do you think?"

Bao'er nodded. "Mm."

She was only four, after all, not fourteen or twenty-four. How could she possibly know how to express much of an opinion?

Forgive Zuo Yi for being so wordy. He was still a rookie dad!

But there was no denying that with the little girl in this home, it would no longer be lonely or cold!

Bao'er was home. The story of the adorable little girl and her daddy truly began now!
