Background
Shang Yulin is the daughter of Shang He, the late master of Heavenly Vast Martial Arts Hall. Although she is two years younger than Zuo Yi, she entered the martial path before him and is therefore his senior sister under martial arts custom. She trained as a swordswoman and later became an instructor at her father's hall. 10
Following Shang He's death, Shang Yulin assumed responsibility for both her ill mother, Liang Xuemei, and the declining martial arts hall. Longwu Group's covert pressure drove away instructors and students, leaving her to preserve her father's life work with little support. 11 111
She initially concealed the truth of Shang He's death from Zuo Yi to prevent him from seeking revenge. Shang He had been defeated in an arena duel by his former disciple Ling Yu; the humiliation, old injuries, and resulting illness ultimately led to his death. 111
Appearance
Shang Yulin is a graceful, beautiful woman with a heroic air between her brows. She is often seen in practical martial arts attire, though she also dresses elegantly outside the hall. 10 114
- Graceful figure and long legs. 10 15
- Beautiful face, usually worn without makeup. 10 114
- Long hair, sometimes pinned up when outside the martial arts hall. 114
- Her fencing style emphasizes a light, swift, sharp, and elegant presence. 175
Personality
Shang Yulin is proud, responsible, and fiercely protective of Heavenly Vast Martial Arts Hall. Even while facing financial hardship, she refuses to burden Zuo Yi or accept his direct financial support, preferring to carry the hall's problems herself. 43 58
Her father's death and the hall's near-collapse leave her emotionally strained, particularly when she fears a student may have been harmed or the hall's reputation may be ruined. Nevertheless, she continues rebuilding, personally helping clean, renovate, and equip the hall once its circumstances improve. 14 80
She is direct about personal boundaries, firmly rejecting Chen Zhe's courtship and stating that she has no plans to date. Her relationship with Zuo Yi remains one of martial family, friendship, and mutual trust rather than romance. 42 375
As a trainee, Shang Yulin is highly diligent and refuses to be satisfied with her progress. Even after exhausting herself in sparring, she focuses on the weaknesses in her speed and strength rather than celebrating what she has achieved. 175
Abilities & Skills
Swordsmanship
Shang Yulin was a Professional Rank Five swordswoman before her Transcendent awakening and remains Heavenly Vast's foremost sword instructor apart from Zuo Yi. 61 179

- Produces sword aura after becoming a Transcendent Being. 289
- Her post-awakening swordsmanship can display D-Rank-level combat power despite her peak E-Rank realm. 289
Faston Court Cross-Swordsmanship
Zuo Yi selected Faston Court Cross-Swordsmanship for Shang Yulin because it suits her physique, temperament, and sword talent. He intends for her to follow the path of a high-agility Sword Maiden rather than that of a conventional power-focused knight. 175 177
- Employs swift thrusts, shifting angles, feints, and attacks from an opponent's flanks. 175
- Her strongest attack combines a forward lunge with her full body weight and sword force. 175
- She continues advanced training after awakening, rapidly improving her speed, reactions, and technique. 289
