Background

The Byakugan is the Hyuga Clan’s hereditary ocular technique and the foundation of its taijutsu-centered fighting style. It is valued for its ability to perceive chakra, chakra pathways, and hidden threats; the clan’s reputation for surviving through close-quarters combat rests heavily on this perception 49 415.

Hyuga Yizhe activates his Byakugan for the first time after resolving to grow stronger following his parents’ deaths 8. Its combat form is marked by web-like veins bulging around the user’s eyes 94.

The Hidden Mist once killed a previous Hyuga Main House head and seized one of his Byakugan during wartime. Ao later possesses that eye, making him the “Byakugan Killer” and a lasting source of shame for the Hyuga Clan 286 421.

Countering Visual Genjutsu

Yizhe discovers that a Byakugan user can close their eyes to sever the visual medium required by Sharingan genjutsu while retaining awareness through the Byakugan’s penetrating vision 410 411.

Bird in a Cage Protection

Most Hyuga Branch House members bear the Bird in a Cage Cursed Seal, which protects the Byakugan from theft by destroying an eye removed from its bearer 144.
