When Kumogakure's attempt to capture Uzumaki clan members failed, A maintained the village's plan to challenge the Fire Country. He ordered Blue B to lead a thousand shinobi to the front and arranged to personally join the conflict via the Heavenly Transfer Technique. 16

Orochimaru later drove the Eight-Tails berserk within Kumogakure using a genjutsu pill. A was teleported back to defend the village, confronting Gyūki alone while the beast was unresponsive to communication. 19

Their battle lasted an entire day. A endured a point-blank Tailed Beast Bomb, severed all eight of Gyūki's tentacles, and collapsed only after the Eight-Tails also fell from exhaustion. He awoke days later with only an electrical burn, and news of the feat earned him the epithets “Strongest Spear” and “Strongest Shield.” 19
