Background / History

Hongye served alongside Hyuga Iwa and Might Guy from an early stage. During the Rōran mission, Iwa entrusted her with a marked kunai and assigned her to protect Princess Sara, establishing the trust between them 73. In the same conflict, her frustration at being unable to support Iwa drove her to awaken her One-Tomoe Sharingan 73.

Her constant physical training with Iwa and Guy gave her exceptional taijutsu for an Uchiha. At age ten, she defeated the Chunin Uchiha Akikaze despite having only a One-Tomoe Sharingan against his Two-Tomoe Sharingan; she overpowered him physically, broke his genjutsu, and forced the match to be stopped 79. The Uchiha elders consequently regarded her as a likely future Mangekyo Sharingan wielder 79.

Hongye remained deeply concerned for the Uchiha Clan as tensions with Danzo and Root emerged. Although she initially reacted angrily to the danger, she ultimately accepted Iwa's warning that confronting Danzo without evidence would invite retaliation, reaffirming her trust in him 88.

She later fought Shinnō of the Sky Ninja remnants. The Zero-Tail's negative influence briefly impaired her judgment, but Iwa broke the effect with a palm strike. Her pursuit of ocular evolution culminated in a dual-Rinnegan awakening. Her confidence can turn into overconfidence, as seen when Shinnō's Zero-Tail influence nearly catches her off guard, but she responds to setbacks by becoming more disciplined and dangerous 144.

She is emotionally candid in private, though easily embarrassed around Iwa. Hongye repeatedly takes initiative in their relationship, from taking his hand on Hokage Rock to initiating their first kiss 210 233. She is also protective and jealous where Iwa is concerned, confronting Ada after Ada openly pursued him 296.
