The Daily Prophet was one of the newspapers students at Hogwarts often saw.
So when many students learned that Remus Lupin was a werewolf, they were utterly shocked.
A werewolf.
Even a pure-hearted person, one who never forgot to pray at night, could not avoid turning into a wolf on a full-moon night when wolfsbane bloomed.
They were dangerous and frenzied, unable to distinguish friend from foe.
For a time, some frightened students would turn pale and hide whenever they saw Remus Lupin.
But some were not afraid.
"Professor Lupin, are you really a werewolf?" Dean was a bold fellow. During Defense Against the Dark Arts class, he could not help asking.
They had always felt very friendly toward Remus Lupin.
Remus Lupin himself was also gentle by nature, and his classes were often humorous and interesting.
Thus, when faced with the Daily Prophet's report, they hoped more than anything that Remus Lupin was not a werewolf.
"Dean, what are you talking about? Professor Lupin has been with us for so long. How could he possibly be a werewolf?" Harry Potter stepped forward to defend him before Remus Lupin could explain.

"I believe Professor Lupin isn't a werewolf. Several times, he appeared at the Elemental Magic Dueling Club on full-moon nights to watch the students duel."
