The assistant stood at the bedroom door, unsure whether to enter or leave.
"Mr. Zhong, we've gotten to the bottom of it. Would you like to see it now, or later?"
Zhong Mohan sat on the bed, his well-built upper body exposed. He casually ran a hand through his hair. "Leave it there. You can go."
"Yes." Trembling, the assistant set down the report and immediately turned to leave.
Mr. Zhong's face had been ranked the number one most beautiful face in the world. Very few people could resist it. He was already extraordinarily handsome under normal circumstances, but now, tinged with desire, he was even more captivating.
Yet ever since the assistant had begun working for Mr. Zhong, he had never seen him show any need in that regard. Even when people had offered themselves to him before, Mr. Zhong would not spare them a glance, simply have them bundled up and thrown out. So what was going on this time?
The assistant was filled with confusion, while Zhong Mohan merely glanced over the document before lowering his head and continuing what he was doing.
The tiny piece of fabric had already been abused beyond recognition.
After a long while, Zhong Mohan let out a deep sigh, threw back the covers, got out of bed, and went into the bathroom again.
However, he was in no hurry to clean himself up. He washed that little piece of fabric first, then leisurely took a shower.
Only after coming out of the bathroom wrapped in a bath towel did Zhong Mohan sit on the sofa and begin reading the document.
Actually, even without reading it, he could roughly guess who had done it. Someone so eager to deal with him, and capable of pulling strings at a Zhong Household banquet—there was only one such person.
He flipped through it casually. Sure enough, it was exactly as he had expected.
However, Wen Chengze's appearance did surprise him.
He had thought Wen Chengze being there had simply been an accident. He had not expected the other man to be one of the people being plotted against as well.
He lightly rubbed the web between his right thumb and forefinger.
A thoughtful look flashed through his eyes. He had originally believed Wen Chengze's appearance there was an accident, but now it seemed that was not the case.
They had deliberately set Wen Chengze up.
A calculating glint flashed in Zhong Mohan's eyes, then he smiled. Since his opponent had personally delivered him such useful assistance, he would accept it.
After typing out a message and sending it to his assistant, Zhong Mohan left the bedroom.
Meanwhile, the two young masters of the Wen Household had both slept poorly that night.
The eldest young master had been busy investigating what exactly had happened to his younger brother at the Zhong Household that evening. However, it had happened on Zhong territory, so even for him, finding anything useful was extremely difficult.
As for the younger young master of the Wen Household, he had hurriedly taken a shower before lying down on his bedroom bed, eager to rest. Yet for some reason, he had not rested well at all that night.
He alternated between feeling cold and hot, as though he had been dreaming the entire time. He always felt as if something had hold of him, keeping him from breaking free from the dream.
The night before, so as not to worry Father Wen and Mother Wen, Wen Chenglin had only told them that Wen Chengze was tired and had already gone to rest. They had not thought much of it.
But now, when he had not even come downstairs for breakfast, they could not help worrying.
He could roughly guess what had happened last night. He had not questioned his younger brother then because he did not want to upset him, intending to investigate it directly instead. But now that he had found nothing, he could only ask his little brother himself.
"Dad, Mom, have breakfast first. I'll go upstairs and check on Xiao Ze."
He knocked lightly on the door, but heard no response.
He gently opened the door, and the first thing he saw was the person on the bed, still deeply asleep.
Seeing that his younger brother was still sleeping, Wen Chenglin let out a breath of relief. As long as he was asleep, it was fine.
But when he approached, he realized it was not as peaceful as it had looked from afar.
Wen Chengze was completely buried beneath the covers, with only his small head exposed. His cheeks were flushed, and his breathing was somewhat heavy.
Wen Chenglin gently pressed his right hand against Wen Chengze's forehead. The scorching heat beneath his palm startled him.
His little brother had a fever!
Wen Chenglin quickly got up and called the doctor.
When Wen Chenglin came downstairs, his face was dark.
"How is your brother?"
"He's sleeping. But it looks like he has a fever."
"A fever?!" Mother Wen immediately became anxious and started toward the stairs.
Wen Chenglin hurriedly stopped her. "Xiao Ze is still sleeping. I called the doctor. Let's wait before going upstairs."
Because their younger son had a fever, Father Wen and Mother Wen had no appetite for breakfast.
"How did he suddenly get a fever? Wasn't he perfectly fine yesterday?" Mother Wen kept glancing upstairs, her eyes full of worry.
Father Wen was no ordinary man. From the expressions on Mother Wen's face and his eldest son's, he knew his younger son's situation was definitely more than a simple fever.
He asked in a low voice, "What exactly happened to Xiao Ze?"
Faced with his father's questioning, Wen Chenglin fell silent for a moment before saying, "Maybe he was frightened at the banquet yesterday. But I still haven't found out exactly what happened. I had planned to wait until Xiao Ze woke up and was feeling a little better before asking him."
At that, Mother Wen glared at Father Wen. "I said Xiao Ze shouldn't have come back, but neither of you listened. And now look at this—he had barely returned before attending one banquet and falling sick."
Mother Wen was usually gentle and soft-spoken, but the moment she widened her eyes, the two men in the household were immediately intimidated into silence.
"How much longer until the doctor arrives?" Mother Wen asked irritably.
"He should be here soon." Wen Chenglin hoped the doctor would arrive quickly too.
However, the Wen Household had not expected that instead of the doctor, an unexpected visitor would arrive.
"Mr. Zhong is here."
The servant's words plunged the three people in the living room into silence.
They had only attended the Zhong Household's banquet yesterday. Why had the head of the Zhong Household come calling today?
Thinking of Xiao Ze upstairs, Father Wen said to Mother Wen, "Go upstairs and look after Xiao Ze first. Xiao Lin and I will see what Mr. Zhong has come for."
Even though she did not directly participate in Lineage affairs during this sensitive period, Mother Wen was not ignorant of such matters. She nodded and went upstairs to look after Wen Chengze.
As they spoke, Zhong Mohan had already been led over by a servant.
"Mr. Zhong, why have you come so early in the morning? If there was something you needed, you could have called directly."
Whenever he faced this young Mr. Zhong, Father Wen could always feel a heavy pressure.
Clearly, Mr. Zhong worked in the entertainment industry, yet the pressure he gave others was no less than that of the old master of the Zhong Household.
His face showed little expression, but even a single look into his eyes sent chills down one's spine.
"Something happened to the young master at yesterday's banquet. I happened to come across it. Although I rescued him, I was still worried. Since it happened at a Zhong Household banquet, I thought it would be better to come and check on him personally."
The assistant behind Zhong Mohan silently adjusted his glasses. It was rare enough to hear his boss say so much, but his boss had truly brought the phrase "turning black into white" to life.
Wen Chenglin studied Zhong Mohan suspiciously. For some reason, he felt that something was off.
However, Wen Chenglin did not suspect that Zhong Mohan was the person who had bullied Wen Chengze.
After all, Zhong Mohan had remained impervious to temptation for so many years. Though Wen Chenglin cherished his younger brother dearly, he did not believe Zhong Mohan would lower himself to force his younger brother. An old bull eating tender grass—Zhong Mohan could not possibly be that much of a beast.
