Over the past ten years, Dr. Xize could be said to understand Wen Chengze even better than Wen Chengze's own family did.
He knew that Wen Chengze could clearly perceive emotions, could sense other people's joy, anger, sorrow, and happiness, but he could not express them himself. Even when he smiled or should have been angry, there were actually no ripples in his heart. He was like a precise machine, capable of imitating joy, anger, sorrow, and happiness, yet incapable of possessing them.
But recent data showed that Wen Chengze's emotions had fluctuated noticeably. Though the change was not great, it undeniably existed.
Dr. Xize simply had never imagined that it would happen after that sort of incident.
Emotional fluctuations around family were perfectly normal, but around an outsider, it was somewhat strange.
It was not that Dr. Xize underestimated Wen Chengze. Wen Chengze possessed exquisitely beautiful features and, when quiet, looked like an angel fallen into the mortal world.
Over the past ten years, there had certainly been no shortage of people who fell in love with Wen Chengze at first sight, but Wen Chengze had never been moved in the slightest. So after only a few days back in the country, Dr. Xize did not believe Wen Chengze had fallen in love with someone else.
He was more willing to attribute Wen Chengze's emotions to imprinting.
"Wen, you don't actually need to worry. Showing your true emotions in front of your family will benefit your recovery. There's no need to suppress your nature."
Xize still remembered the footage Madam Wen had brought him ten years ago, showing Wen Chengze as a child.
Little Wen had been a soft, squishy dumpling, dressed in adorable overalls and holding a snow-white rabbit. His tiny hand would gently stroke it again and again. He would be surprised by the rabbit's light licks, and when the little rabbit accidentally nipped him, his eyes would immediately redden. Then he would throw himself into Madam Wen's arms and say softly, "Mommy, it hurts."
At that age, the little dumpling was at the stage where children loved to act spoiled. A child who had been pampered and loved to act cute since childhood should not have grown into an iceberg.
Even as he listened to Xize, Wen Chengze remained expressionless. In truth, the times he felt most relaxed over the years were when he spoke to his psychologist, because he did not need to disguise himself.
"What about the other person?" Even now, Wen Chengze still could not figure out why his inexplicable anger had risen.
"Wen, that was your first man, wasn't it?"
If most people were asked such a question, they should have looked bashful. Even if they remained composed, there would still be a hint of pretense.
But Wen Chengze was different. He did not even blink.
"Yes."
"That should simply be because it was your first time. Your body subconsciously recognized him, but once you meet more people in the future, you won't have this reaction anymore."
"A normal physiological reaction?"
"Yes."
Wen Chengze had read quite a few books over the years, from astronomy and geography to romance novels.
He knew that some protagonists had an exceptional attachment to their first partner. He had never expected that one day, he too would become the protagonist of a book.
"Alright, I understand."
Now that he had found the reason, Wen Chengze felt relieved.
The emotions that had suddenly surged up felt unfamiliar to him, and frightening as well. With his psychologist's reassurance, he was clearly much better.
"It should be very late where you are. Get some rest. Let's stop here for today," Dr. Xize said considerately. He felt that his little patient might need some private space to sort through his thoughts.
"Good night."
The video call ended, and Wen Chengze remained seated in his chair without moving for a long time.
Dr. Xize's advice was that it was better to guide than suppress, so he would simply let nature take its course. In any case, he would only reveal his true emotions in front of his family now, so it would not have much of an impact.
As for the man who had caused his emotional fluctuations, Wen Chengze instinctively excluded him from consideration.
What Wen Chengze did not know was that, in a top-floor private room of a restaurant that evening, several influential figures were drinking together. Yet the center of all their attention was fixed on the same man.
Zhong Mohan gently swirled his wineglass, seemingly not in high spirits.
Chairman Cheng gave a meaningful look, and the others promptly raised their glasses to toast Zhong Mohan.
Everyone present was a famous producer, screenwriter, or director in the entertainment industry, yet every one of them still had to flatter and curry favor with Zhong Mohan.
Although Zhong Mohan belonged to an independent studio, it was said that his backing was extremely powerful. If Zhong Mohan so much as stomped his foot, the entire entertainment industry would tremble.
After taking a few drinks, Zhong Mohan suddenly looked toward Chairman Cheng.
"Was the person I ran into this afternoon Chairman Cheng's son?"
Chairman Cheng jolted. Looking at Zhong Mohan's expression, could his son have offended Zhong Mohan somehow?
"Yes. My son is still young and spends his days drinking and fooling around. I only brought him into the company a few days ago, hoping he'd settle down."
Zhong Mohan gave a careless acknowledgment, then said nothing further.
Drinking and fooling around?
The two of them had seemed quite happy together that afternoon, so were they mutually willing to be involved with each other?
What kind of taste did Wen Chengze have, taking a liking to such an idle good-for-nothing?
Chairman Cheng had been extremely pleased after reaching a cooperation agreement with Zhong Mohan, but Zhong Mohan remained in low spirits throughout the evening, leaving Chairman Cheng deeply puzzled.
Later, recalling Zhong Mohan's question about his son, he concluded that his son must have offended Zhong Mohan somewhere. He therefore watched Cheng Liang even more strictly afterward, leaving Cheng Liang with no time at all to have fun.
Wen Chengze knew nothing of any of this. He was merely considering how to make a name for himself in the entertainment industry as quickly as possible.
Of course, the kind of name Wen Chengze wanted to make was not a good one. He wanted everyone to know that the Wen Household's young master was a truly spoiled child.
Wen Chengze summed it up: earning a reputation for being arrogant and overbearing in the entertainment industry was actually quite simple. It was nothing more than stealing other people's roles, deliberately flaunting wealth, and having a sharp tongue. None of it would be difficult for him.
As for stealing roles, he could find a way to exchange resources with the other party and get them an even better role. As for flaunting wealth, he would flaunt his own money, which should not interfere with anyone else. A sharp tongue would be even easier to handle. His temper was not good to begin with. It was fine if no one provoked him, but if someone did, they should not blame him for being impolite.
Based on Wen Chengze's understanding of the entertainment industry, once he had done all those things, some ill-intentioned people should come looking to pick a fight with him.
When that happened, he only needed to go with the flow.
He was determined to earn that arrogant and overbearing reputation.
After all, he was different from Zhong Mohan.
Zhong Mohan could only work hard to establish himself in the entertainment industry so that others would think he was merely a novice in the business world. Wen Chengze, meanwhile, had the Wen Household behind him; the more arrogant he acted, the less threatening the Wen Household would seem to others.
