The events of the signing day were quickly thrown to the back of Wen Chengze's mind.
Lately, he had been busy choosing a manager.
Although Wen Chengze had entered the entertainment industry just for fun, he did not want to interfere with someone else's serious career.
That was why he had to choose these managers personally. He could not have someone dedicated to managing him, only for him to quit halfway through and delay their career.
For that reason, finding a manager who suited his preferences was not actually easy.
Just because he was a rich second-generation heir did not mean people would cater to him.
If he genuinely wanted to make something of himself in the entertainment industry, people would naturally lean toward someone with connections. But if he was only there to have fun, a large portion of them would back out.
He was difficult to control and might even bring trouble upon them. No one would be willing to manage Wen Chengze.
In Cheng Liang's office, Wen Chengze and Cheng Liang stared at each other.
Cheng Liang wiped his face. "How about I just assign someone to you? With the way those sly old foxes think, they definitely won't want to manage you. Who would have thought there'd be a day when you weren't popular?"
Wen Chengze propped his chin up with one hand. "Isn't it normal not to be popular? No one would be willing to spend time and effort managing a second-generation heir who can't produce results."
"You're quite calm about it."
"The company poached a new manager today. They say there's no one he can't make famous. He doesn't have any artists under him right now anyway, so let him manage you for a while and help you get familiar with the company."
Wen Chengze nodded. "Is he at the company now?"
"Yeah, he's in the meeting room. I'll take you to meet him later. But judging by your expression, you don't seem surprised."
Wen Chengze lowered his hand and leaned comfortably against the back of his chair. Warm sunlight spilled over him, pleasant and relaxing.
He spoke lazily, "You've questioned every manager in the company these past few days and still didn't find anyone suitable, yet you weren't in a hurry. Doesn't that mean you'd already found a candidate?"
Cheng Liang looked at his friend curled up in the chair, lazy and content like a little cat, and fell into a daze for a moment.
The few of them had grown up together, and they all shared the same understanding that Wen Chengze was beautiful. But as they grew older, they saw Xiao Ze less often. This was the first time Cheng Liang had felt so directly just how beautiful Xiao Ze was.
The current Xiao Ze was not only beautiful, but also carried an untouchable air. Yet when his gaze shifted, there was a trace of indescribable allure in his eyes. Simply standing there, he could draw everyone's attention.
"What are you thinking about?" Seeing that Cheng Liang was silent, Wen Chengze glanced sideways at him.
"Cough, nothing. I'll take you to meet him in a while. Oh, right, I forgot to ask before—did Xiao Ze ever date a girl abroad?"
Wen Chengze gave Cheng Liang a puzzled look, not knowing why he had suddenly asked such a question. "Not interested."
A surge of delight rose in Cheng Liang's heart.
Xiao Ze was still a blank slate. If it truly worked out, perhaps he could pluck this flower from the highest peak.
They had grown up together and knew each other inside out. Cheng Liang was confident that he could treat Xiao Ze well for the rest of his life.
In just a few seconds, Cheng Liang had already thought as far as where he and Wen Chengze would go for their honeymoon.
Watching Cheng Liang lapse into a daze again, Wen Chengze pressed his lips together.
"Have you had too much work lately? If you're low on energy, you should see a doctor and get yourself looked at." Wen Chengze had only said that because he wanted Cheng Liang to snap out of it. Even with such a heavy workload, Cheng Liang still should not forget to fool around with all those women.
But Cheng Liang, currently bewitched by beauty, only felt that Wen Chengze was caring about him.
Xiao Ze was worried about him!!! By that logic, Xiao Ze was practically concerned for him!!!
"Don't worry. I'll make sure to stay full of energy at all times."
Wen Chengze tilted his head, unable to understand why Cheng Liang had suddenly become so fired up. Still, if Grandpa Cheng saw him like this, he would probably be very pleased.
Half an hour later, Wen Chengze finally met that manager.
The other man wore a silver-gray suit and was impeccably groomed from head to toe. If Wen Chengze had not known he was a manager, he would have assumed he worked in finance.
"Hello, I'm Zhuo Wenyu." Upon seeing Wen Chengze, the man seated in the chair stood up first and greeted him.
"Hello." Wen Chengze's first impression of Zhuo Wenyu was good. He seemed like a steady, reliable person.
Both sides had very clear intentions, so the following discussion proceeded smoothly. Half an hour later, Wen Chengze and Zhuo Wenyu had established their working relationship.
But for some reason, Wen Chengze had the feeling that the other man had come specifically for him.
He had sensed it during their conversation. Many of the terms they discussed benefited him, yet they were not things a manager should have accepted so readily. However, Zhuo Wenyu had not voiced a single objection from beginning to end.
After the contract was signed, Zhuo Wenyu even smiled at Wen Chengze in a good mood. "Chengze, please take care of me from now on."
Suppressing that strange feeling, Wen Chengze nodded. "Pleasure working with you."
Since they had come to sign the contract today, there was no rush to deal with anything else. After signing it, Zhuo Wenyu left first, saying that he had just moved and needed to go home to sort things out.
After he left, Wen Chengze asked about him. "Cheng Liang, do you know anything about Zhuo Wenyu?"
"Don't be so distant. You used to call me Brother Liang when we were kids. As for Zhuo Wenyu, I know a little. He previously worked at an entertainment company in the south, though he wasn't a full-time manager. He was only responsible for building people up in the early stages before handing them over, and he made quite a few people famous. What is it? Is something wrong?"
"It's nothing."
Wen Chengze did not voice his doubts.
After all, a person's history could not be fabricated, especially in a semi-public work environment like the entertainment industry. As for the way Zhuo Wenyu dressed, no one said a manager could not dress like an elite investor.
After leaving the company and getting into his car, Zhuo Wenyu immediately made a phone call.
"Mr. Zhong, the contract has been signed."
"Mm, I understand. I won't interfere with Young Master Wen's actions. But to be honest, I don't quite understand. If you're worried about the young master, why not sign him directly to your studio? Wouldn't that be more convenient?"
Zhuo Wenyu truly was an outstanding manager. He could even be called the best manager under Zhong Mohan. So when he was suddenly sent here to become Wen Chengze's manager, while being forbidden from interfering with Wen Chengze's wishes, he was quite confused.
"The Wen Household and I are business partners. It's only right that I look after him, but I can't put that relationship out in the open."
"Understood. Don't worry, I'll take good care of Young Master Wen."
The young master of the Wen Household had Zhong Mohan backing him as well. Even if the young master wanted to swagger through the entertainment industry, it would not be a problem.
