[Time-Reversal Charm: Allows one to see anything that happened at any place and any time, and to communicate with the dead.] [Description: Only blood and death are the truth of history. Requires the sacrifice of a life.]
Lyon stared at the effects of the Time-Reversal Charm, his pupils suddenly contracting.
Ancient magic... was this powerful?
[ Ding! The host has come into contact with ancient magic: Time-Reversal Charm. A phased achievement reward has been unlocked. ] [Achievement triggered: Eye in the Darkness] [Reward Talent: Ancient Magic Prodigy.]
The system notifications by his ear gradually fell silent, and only then did Lyon slowly come back to his senses.
The name of this achievement was rather unusual—Eye in the Darkness.
What did it have to do with ancient magic?
After thinking about it for a while and finding no clues at all, he simply put the matter aside for now.
He had already decided how to use this Time-Reversal Charm.
Once he left school, he would visit the place where his father had died and find the Death Eaters who had killed him.
The past few days in the Hospital Wing had been especially boring. Although little Hermione and the other Slytherin students usually came to visit him,
by the day he left the Hospital Wing, he found that he had not fallen behind in any classes. On the contrary, the books he had read for amusement during his stay had progressed far beyond the classroom lessons.
"Today, we will learn the basic theory of Transfiguration."
It was Transfiguration class. Professor McGonagall stood at the podium, her sharp gaze sweeping over the students from both Houses.
The Slytherin students, led by Lyon, had learned that Lyon had experienced a Magical Outburst and that his magic had reached the level of an adult wizard. Their attitude toward him had become increasingly respectful.
This was evident during class. Because of the quiet atmosphere created by the Slytherin students, the Hufflepuff students beside them did not even dare to speak.
Professor McGonagall sensed the quiet atmosphere. She usually really did not...
"Neville, come up and demonstrate the Transfiguration spell we learned last class, turning a matchstick into a toothpick."
Professor McGonagall swept her gaze around the room and called Neville to the front to demonstrate for the other students. Neville's face flushed bright red, but his movements were quite forceful.
"I'm coming, Professor McGonagall!"
Lyon watched Neville's actions in confusion. Since when had Neville become so brave?
Had he awakened the courage that rightfully belonged to Gryffindor ahead of time?
But it did not seem like that was the case...
"Professor McGonagall, I-I need to adjust my state first."
The moment Neville stepped onto the platform, he spoke nervously. Professor McGonagall nodded tolerantly from the side.
After a long while, Neville finally drew his wand and pointed its tip at a matchstick on the podium.
"Quick Transfiguration!"
Suddenly, a flash of white light glimmered at the tip of Neville's wand.
When the white glow touched the matchstick, it began to flow as though it were liquid.
Very quickly, the matchstick on the podium became a toothpick!
"Neville, very well done!" Professor McGonagall smiled and patted Neville on the shoulder in encouragement.
Neville's little face was flushed as he looked toward a spot among the Slytherin students below. "Seamus, Dean, I did it! Godfather Lyon won't burn my butt with Fiendfyre anymore!"
Lyon: ???
Hearing those outrageous words, Lyon stared blankly at Seamus and Dean in the distance.
When had he ever told Neville that he would burn his butt?
And how could he possibly do something so tasteless?
If Lyon truly wanted to punish someone, he would simply drag them to work in the mine he owned in Birmingham. Food and lodging included, as well as a coffin.
"Cough, cough, Lyon."
Lyon felt someone tug at his sleeve. Turning around, he saw little Hermione looking at him awkwardly.
"While you were away, Neville's grades dropped badly. Seamus and Dean told Neville that if he was still last place, you would use Fiendfyre to burn his... cough, cough."
Little Hermione's face flushed crimson. Only after she finished speaking did Lyon understand.
But what did his presence or absence have to do with whether Neville studied?
At the podium, Professor McGonagall's face darkened upon hearing Neville's words, and she looked at Lyon.
"Mr. Shelby, Hogwarts has never permitted you to threaten your classmates with Fiendfyre."
"Professor, in fact, I never..."
Lyon had barely begun to speak when he was interrupted again.
"Mr. Shelby, I have heard that the Slytherin students privately obey your every word. While I have no authority to interfere in such matters, I will never allow any student to be harmed."
Lyon fell silent. He felt that whenever something came out of Neville's mouth, it was bound to turn into trouble.
Seeing this, Neville's face went pale with fright.
Then he noticed Godfather Lyon looking at him with an utterly emotionless gaze, and for some reason, Neville suddenly felt a burning pain in his butt.
"Gulp." After swallowing, Neville covered his butt and shakily stepped down from the podium.
"Alright, today we will learn more complicated Transfiguration."
"Last class, we learned how to turn a matchstick into a toothpick. This was a transformation based on the essential nature of wood..."
As Professor McGonagall explained, Lyon understood it very easily.
Soon, Professor McGonagall handed everyone in the classroom a piece of wood and instructed them to turn it into a sphere.
The classroom fell quiet once more, with only the sounds of students chanting spells.
Professor McGonagall could not help recalling what it was like to teach Gryffindor and Ravenclaw students.
Although her strictness could keep most of them in line, the moment she turned around, there would still be plenty of whispering. Throughout the entire lesson, she had to spend a great deal of time maintaining order.
But in this class, she could not see anyone making unnecessary movements. Everything was neat and orderly.
Comfortable.
As her thoughts drifted, she guided student after student in properly casting Transfiguration. When she reached Lyon's seat, she saw the oval sphere before Hermione and felt somewhat gratified.
Although Hermione had not completely turned the wood into a sphere, this was already quite good.
Turning her head, she saw Lyon holding his wand and pointing it at the piece of wood on his desk.
"Quick Transfiguration."
A flash of white light flickered from the Elderwood Wand in Lyon's hand and struck the wood on the desk.
The wood began to flow as though it had turned into water, gradually taking shape.
But at the final moment of the Transfiguration, the wood suddenly stopped changing.
"Something's wrong." Lyon frowned and muttered to himself.
Professor McGonagall frowned. She had thought Lyon was quite talented and should have been able to transform the wood in one attempt.
But then she remembered that Lyon had been in the Hospital Wing during the previous class, so Professor McGonagall relaxed her brow and prepared to step forward to guide him.
Just as she reached Lyon's side, she suddenly heard him muttering to himself.
"How can wood undergo an essential change? How can ordinary wood turn into stone?"
Professor McGonagall froze. "Lyon, what are you doing?"
But Lyon stared intently at the wood on the desk as though he had not heard Professor McGonagall. He raised his wand and pointed it at the wood.
"Quick Transfiguration!"
The wood began transforming again, gradually being shaped by Lyon's magic into a perfect sphere.
