Background / History

Loki arrives on Blue Star through a Space Gate accompanied by the Chitauri Legion. Holding his Scepter, he treats the world as territory to be conquered and declares his intention to become the ruler of a new era. He quickly turns the S.H.I.E.L.D. aircraft into a staging ground for his forces, overwhelming agents and dismissing human resistance as futile 38.

Seeking the Cosmic Cube, Loki attacks S.H.I.E.L.D. and uses the Scepter's Mind Stone to control Hawkeye. He initially disregards Lin Du as an insignificant mortal, but becomes wary after Lin Du resists his mental influence and manipulates space to negate his attacks 39 40.

Loki attempts to seize the Cosmic Cube by offering Lin Du godhood, but Lin Du instead takes the Scepter and fuses with the Mind Stone. Faced with Lin Du's newfound power, Loki retreats with Hawkeye and Dr. Selvig, then uses the Mind Stone to open a Time-Space Gate that devastates the S.H.I.E.L.D. base 40 42 43.

After his failure, Loki coerces Dr. Selvig into helping him reclaim the Cosmic Cube and commands mind-controlled followers to attack the New York Sanctum. He reports his losses to Thanos, who grants him a final chance to recover the stones 44 46 47.
