The group passed through the secret passage behind the study and boarded the train leading underground to The Hive. Inside the carriage, the medic examined the unconscious Spence and confirmed that he had fallen unconscious due to nerve gas inhalation—which had caused his amnesia—and severe injuries.
The train started up and sped through the dim tunnel. The atmosphere inside the carriage was grave. The team checked their equipment while Alice and Matt tried to get more information from Li Wei.
"Mr. Li..." Alice began hesitantly. "What exactly is this T-virus you mentioned before?"
Li Wei sat across from her and explained calmly, "A highly lethal genetic weapon secretly developed by the Umbrella Corporation. It can turn the dead... or rather, all infected individuals, into walking corpses driven only by the instinct to devour. The accident in The Hive was caused by it."
"The Umbrella Corporation... why would they develop something like that?" Matt, an environmentalist, felt a surge of anger and dread.
"For profit, for so-called 'biological weapons,' for control over power beyond ethics." Li Wei's tone remained flat. "More often than not, humanity's fear comes from its own kind."
His words plunged the carriage into an even deeper silence. Captain Shade frowned tightly, beginning to question the true purpose of this mission.
The train arrived and stopped at The Hive's entrance. The group got off and found the platform flooded, the water waist-deep. Several researchers' corpses floated in it.
"Watch the water!" Li Wei suddenly warned them. His powerful telekinetic senses detected something approaching beneath the surface.
No sooner had he spoken than a "floating corpse" suddenly burst from the water, opening its bloody maw at the nearest team member! It was a zombie!
"Fire!" Shade roared.
Gunfire erupted at once, but unless the zombies were shot in the head, they simply would not stop! Chaos broke out.
Just then, Li Wei moved. The "Startrail" armguard did not even rise as several specially made rounds shot out at a speed too fast for the naked eye to follow. They traced strange arcs through the water and precisely sank into the eye sockets of every zombie that surfaced, killing each one with a single blow! His movements were graceful and efficient, as though he were not slaughtering enemies but performing precise surgery.
The team stared at the scene in shock, gaining a far more direct understanding of Li Wei's strength. Alice especially watched him remain calm amid the chaos, effortlessly defusing the crisis with every gesture. The trust in her eyes deepened.
After clearing the zombies from the platform, the team entered the main body of The Hive. The place was a complete mess, stained with blood. The power system was unstable, and the lights flickered on and off.
At the passage leading to Level B of the main computer room, they encountered the infamous laser corridor trap.
In the original course of events, several team members would die here. When the group entered the corridor and the doors on both sides suddenly shut, red laser grids began scanning the passage, and panic spread instantly.
"Red Queen! Open the door!" Shade shouted at the camera.
"Sorry. According to my assessment, you are a potential threat to viral spread and must be eliminated." The Red Queen's hologram appeared in the form of a little girl and made the declaration coldly.
The laser grid began moving, becoming a deadly cutting line that swept horizontally toward their waists!
"Get down!" Shade shouted urgently.
Everyone dropped to the floor in a panic as the laser skimmed over their scalps. But immediately afterward, the laser grid shifted into vertical cutting lines and began contracting toward the center!
"We're finished!" J.D. looked utterly despairing.
At that critical moment, blue light flashed in Li Wei's eyes. Vast telekinetic power surged forth like solid walls, bracing itself against both sides of the corridor! The laser grid, capable of cutting through steel, emitted a piercing hum the instant it touched those telekinetic walls. Its speed dropped sharply, becoming extremely unstable!
"Quick! Attack the laser emitters on both sides!" Li Wei ordered in a low voice. At the same time, he maintained the telekinetic output, a faint sheen of sweat appearing on his forehead. The lasers' energy intensity was extremely high, placing no small burden on him as well.
Shade and Rain reacted immediately, raising their guns and firing wildly at the laser generators at the end of the corridor!
"Bang! Bang! Bang!" One second before the laser grid broke through Li Wei's telekinetic defense, the emitters were successfully destroyed! The lasers vanished instantly.
The corridor doors slowly opened. The team members, having narrowly escaped death, gasped for air as they looked at Li Wei with unbelievable gratitude. If not for him, every one of them would have already been sliced to pieces!
"You... who exactly are you?" Rain could not help asking, with none of her earlier disdain left in her voice.
"Someone who doesn't want to see innocent people die in vain." Li Wei wiped away sweat that did not exist and answered casually. He looked toward the Red Queen's main computer room, his gaze sharp. "Now, it's time to have a talk with that disobedient artificial intelligence."
