Li Wei was a writer before being suddenly transported into the Battle of New York during the Chitauri invasion. He awakened the Heavens and Myriad Worlds Plunder System, which supplied him with magical power and artifacts, allowing him to escape the battlefield and seek a foothold in the Marvel Universe. 1

He intervened when Iron Man was cornered by Chitauri aircraft, restraining them with the Crimson Bands of Cyttorak. Viewing the rescue as an investment, Li Wei later used evidence of the intervention to demand one month of access to the New York Sanctum library as payment. 2

The Ancient One recognized both the unusual origin and immaturity of his magic.
