Background / History

Odin exiled Thor to Earth after his arrogance and recklessness threatened war. His divine power was stripped away, while Mjolnir was sent separately to New Mexico under an enchantment requiring worthiness to wield it 31.

On Earth, Thor struggled with ordinary injuries, unfamiliar technology, and Midgardian customs. Jane Foster, Erik Selvig, and Darcy Lewis sheltered him after he was struck by their vehicle; Jane later drove him to Mjolnir after he learned of the hammer's arrival 34 35 36.

Thor fought through S.H.I.E.L.D.'s perimeter with disciplined, nonlethal combat skill, but could not move Mjolnir. The failure left him despondent and forced him to confront the loss of both his identity and his power 36 37.

Even after maturing, Thor remains stubborn, competitive, and prone to underestimating opponents. He can refuse aid even while injured, but has learned to adapt when brute force alone fails—such as destroying the foundation of Loki's Mirror Dimension rather than trying to overcome its illusions directly 239 244 250.

By his later appearances, Thor is quieter and more responsible. He recognizes looming dangers to the Nine Realms, seeks help when needed, and values both clear thinking and strength 135 251 255.

His pride nevertheless remains easy to provoke.
