Background / History
Gary was born in Ains Town, England, into a family with a magical legacy. His family had possessed a parchment containing the ritual to summon and return Cthulhu's Projection for roughly three centuries. 37
A century before the Ains Castle incident, Gary and his sister Isabella used missing English soldiers as sacrifices to summon Cthulhu's Projection. The siblings received Blood Eternal Life, allowing them to retain their appearances far beyond normal human lifespans. Gary also acquired Control Ghoul, while Isabella gained the Sealing Technique and Superhuman Appearance. The soldiers' disappearance led to Gary's ancestor being stripped of the family's noble title. 29 37
At some later point, Gary and Isabella came into conflict. Gary sealed Isabella inside her room using a sealing technique whose release required a necklace kept in a photo frame. Though he sustained her with Blood Eternal Life, he prevented her from freely leaving the castle and remained wary of her supernatural charm by wearing sunglasses around her. 37 38
Gary secretly used a ghoul in his crimes against foreign travelers visiting Ains Castle. He relied on victims' blood and organs for magical rituals, while the ghoul disposed of or consumed bodies. Unknown to Gary, Isabella had secretly gained control over the ghoul; Gary merely believed the creature served him because of his own charm. 36 37 38
Appearance
Gary presents himself as an elderly castle owner and courteous host, though his appearance has been preserved through Blood Eternal Life. 29 37
- Has blood-red eyes, which he describes as a hereditary condition. 30
- Wears sunglasses to conceal his eyes and protect himself from Isabella's charm. 32 38
- Maintains a gentlemanly, educated facade when receiving guests. 31
Personality
Gary is outwardly polite, articulate, and well-read; he welcomes visitors to his banquet and study, speaks of reading Chinese classics, and insists that guests call him “Gary” rather than “Lord.” 29 31
Behind this demeanor, he is suspicious, controlling, and violent. He attempts to probe Liu Xing through Psychology, interrogates Isabella over the stolen parchment, physically abuses her, and threatens Liu Xing at gunpoint when he suspects the group knows too much. 29 31 32

Story Role / Major Arcs
Ains Castle Banquet
Gary introduces himself to Liu Xing's group as the owner of Ains Castle and hosts them at a banquet. He reveals that his family lost its noble title after an “accident” a century earlier, while taking notice of Bai He Cheng's unusual blindness. 29
When Gary uses Psychology to test Liu Xing's lie about Bai He Cheng's condition, Liu Xing wins the contest with a Critical Success. Gary remains interested in Liu Xing and invites him to his study. 29 30
Discovery of the Stolen Parchment
In the study, Gary realizes that the parchment has vanished from its place on the bookshelf. He sends Liu Xing away, then moves to question Isabella about who entered the second floor. 31
Gary becomes openly hostile after confronting Isabella and Liu Xing. He draws a pistol on Liu Xing, but Liu Xing succeeds in persuading him to lower the weapon. 31 32
Death in the Basement
While Liu Xing's group escapes the castle, Bai He Cheng accidentally locks Gary inside the basement. Old Wayne later attempts to free him, but both men are killed by the ghoul. 35 36 37
The later revelation establishes that Isabella had manipulated Liu Xing into removing her seal and enabling her to direct the ghouls against Gary. Police subsequently uncover human remains, preserved organs, blood, and a magic circle in the basement, linking Gary to hundreds of missing-traveler cases. 36 38
