Loki Descends, the Scepter's Whisper

Deep in the desolate desert of New Mexico.

The night sky was torn apart by a sudden, twisted rainbow-like beam of light! The powerful energy blast swept all the sand and stones off the ground, leaving behind a massive scorched mark.

As the beam faded, a figure stumbled out of it.

He wore dark golden armor and a deep green cloak, holding an ornate scepter set with a massive blue gemstone. His handsome face carried a trace of wickedness, his long black hair slightly disheveled. His eyes were filled with the humiliation of exile, the madness of newfound power, and an almost imperceptible reverence for commands from afar.

The God of Mischief, Loki.

He drew a deep breath of Earth's cold air, and a cold, malicious smile curled across his lips.

"Midgard... such a fragile and ignorant realm. Perfect. It shall be the starting point of my new dynasty."

He stroked the Mind Scepter. The gem at its tip emitted a faint yellow glow, pulsing as though it were alive and whispering temptation and chaos.

His mission was clear: find the Tesseract, open the portal, welcome the Chitauri army, seize the Space Stone for Thanos, and... conquer this world.

"First, I need some... servants." Loki's gaze turned toward the faint lights on the distant horizon. There was a small town there.

He elegantly adjusted his collar, and his figure dissolved into illusory mist, drifting silently toward the human settlement.

S.H.I.E.L.D.'s temporary research base, urgently activated due to the Tesseract's anomaly.

The atmosphere was extremely tense.

Nick Fury's expression was so dark it could have dripped water. His single eye stared at the Tesseract within the central containment chamber. It had temporarily calmed down, but its energy readings remained dangerously high.

"Still can't determine the cause of the anomaly?" His voice suppressed his anger.

Dr. Selvig, the chief scientist, wiped the sweat from his forehead. "Sir, the energy eruption came without warning. It was as if it had been forcibly triggered by some higher-order power of the same origin... but it quickly subsided afterward, as though it was merely... a probing contact."

"Probing?" Fury's voice rose. "Who? And how did they probe it? Under our tightest defenses?"

Dr. Selvig had no answer. This was completely beyond his understanding.

Just then, the shrill alarm sounded again! But this time, it did not come from the Tesseract!

"Report! A high-intensity anomalous energy eruption has been detected near Puente Antiguo, New Mexico! Pattern analysis... resembles Asgard's Rainbow Bridge transportation!" a technician reported loudly.

"What?!" Fury spun around. "Asgardians?"

Almost simultaneously, another urgent transmission came through.

"Sir! We've lost all contact with the Puente Antiguo observation station! The last images transmitted back were extremely chaotic... Witnesses reported seeing a man in armor, carrying a scepter..."

Fury's heart sank. Trouble never came alone. The Tesseract's anomaly, an Asgardian visitor... He had an extremely ominous feeling.

"Deploy the nearest team to investigate immediately! Raise the global alert level! Contact Thor... if we can still reach him!" he issued a rapid series of orders.

Queens, safe house.

Lin Ye stood before the holographic projection in the living room. It displayed simulated footage of the New Mexico energy eruption, along with fragments of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s chaotic internal communications, intercepted and decrypted by Remy in real time.

"Loki... he finally came." Lin Ye's tone was calm, as though he were talking about a long-awaited guest.

"High concentrations of psychic energy fluctuations detected. They closely match the scepter's previous energy signature," Remy reported. "The target is moving rapidly. Direction... suspected to be S.H.I.E.L.D.'s temporary base."

"He's gathering cannon fodder and heading straight for the main objective." Lin Ye understood. Loki's first target would certainly be the Tesseract.

[Ding! A key plot character, Loki, has descended, carrying an Infinity Stone—the Mind Stone.] [Response options triggered:] [Option One: Deploy immediately, intercept Loki, and seize the Mind Scepter before he causes greater destruction. Reward: [Greatly increased psychic resistance], [Loki's deep hatred].] [Option Two: Remain still and allow Loki to seize the Tesseract and open the portal. Gain maximum benefits during the Battle of New York (defeat the Chitauri army and reap prestige and resources). Reward: [Chitauri biotechnology analysis], [Battle contribution calculation bonus].] [Option Three: Warn S.H.I.E.L.D. and provide detailed information on Loki's abilities and objectives in exchange for greater trust and resource allocation. Reward: [S.H.I.E.L.D. Level Eight clearance], [Priority access to Quinjet deployment rights].]

The options appeared, and Lin Ye's eyes flickered.

Option One was too risky. Facing Loki head-on while he possessed the Mind Scepter involved too many variables, and it might disrupt the harvesting opportunity of the Battle of New York. Option Three offered average returns and would expose too much of his intelligence network.

Option Two best suited his plan. Let Loki open the portal and let the Chitauri army invade. Then he would make his entrance as a savior and maximize his gains and prestige! As for the casualties caused by Loki's "opening act"... regrettable, but they were a necessary price. His heart had long since hardened through weighing costs and benefits.

"I choose Option Two."

[Choice confirmed. Rewards will be settled after the Battle of New York concludes.]

After making his choice, he immediately instructed Remy, "Remy, monitor Loki's movements and S.H.I.E.L.D.'s response in full. Mark Hawkeye Barton and Dr. Selvig's locations as priorities. They are likely to become Loki's targets."

"Locked on. Agent Clint Barton is leading a team toward Puente Antiguo. Dr. Erik Selvig remains at S.H.I.E.L.D.'s temporary base."

"Good." Lin Ye nodded. He knew Barton was destined to be controlled, and Selvig would also be bewitched. It was part of the plot.

He walked to the window and looked toward Manhattan. Though it was far away, his Mind Network and Tesseract sensing ability allowed him to vaguely feel that spatial energy becoming increasingly... active, as though it were awaiting someone's arrival.

"The storm is coming," he murmured, but an eager fighting spirit burned in his eyes.

New Mexico, outskirts of Puente Antiguo.

The S.H.I.E.L.D. strike team led by Hawkeye Barton found the site of the energy eruption, but saw only scorched earth and the abandoned ruins of the observation station.

"Spread out and search! Stay alert!" Barton ordered, his compound bow already at the ready.

Suddenly, an eerie mist rolled in, and visibility instantly dropped to almost nothing.

"What is this? Fog?"

"Careful!"

The team members nervously drew closer together.

From within the mist came an elegant, mocking voice. "Mortal armies... always so slow."

Barton's pupils contracted. He instantly aimed at the source of the voice and fired an arrow!

The arrow seemed to shoot into empty space and vanished.

The next second, he felt a cold, powerful will forcefully invade his mind! The dim yellow gem atop the Mind Scepter enlarged before his eyes, radiating an irresistible glow.

"Your will... belongs to me." Loki's figure slowly emerged before him, wearing a wicked smile.

Barton struggled, but his eyes quickly turned vacant and dull. At last, they became completely calm, and he dropped to one knee before Loki.

"Master."

"Very good." Loki looked with satisfaction at his first, and most important, puppet. "Now, take me to the... Tesseract."

He looked eastward, as though he could already see the source of that infinite power, and... the world soon to be beneath his feet.

The scepter's whisper sounded its first note upon Earth.
