Upon arriving at the secret rendezvous point, Jack "gently" pushed open the car door, lest other agencies think S.H.I.E.L.D. was so corrupt internally that even its car doors were secondhand.

After getting out, Jack immediately displayed the standard bearing of a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. Oversized sunglasses covered his face, while his sharply defined poker face radiated a chilling, murderous air.

"S.H.I.E.L.D. business!"

Those stiff words drew everyone's attention.

Even General Ross was drawn in. He turned around and saw a group of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents in black suits surrounding a young man in a shirt. That distinctive fashion sense reminded Ross of Director Fury.

In all of S.H.I.E.L.D., Fury was the only one who wore leather jackets every day. Everyone else wore either combat uniforms or black suits.

Yet today, Ross saw a young agent wearing a striped shirt rather than a black suit. But what truly caught his attention was the gaze beneath those sunglasses and the cold smile at the corner of Jack's mouth...

Evil!

Only a true villain could possess such an evil gaze!

Having served in the military for years, Ross had decades of experience judging people. His years of experience told him that a man's eyes were often his most important calling card.

A soldier's eyes were resolute.

A businessman's eyes were greedy.

And a villain's eyes... were evil!

As though he had seen through Jack's sunglasses and into his eyes, Ross marked Jack as dangerous in his heart.

"It seems S.H.I.E.L.D. truly values Doctor Banner this time. Fury even sent an agent who looks evil at a glance. He must be one of those covert agents who specializes in dirty work!"

"Hill, Sitwell, Hawkeye, Natasha... aside from those veteran agents, that bald black man has quite a few hidden cards up his sleeve!"

"Is this supposed to intimidate me?"

"But... I'm conducting my own human experiments. What does that have to do with you, Fury?!"

"You think sending a powerful subordinate who handles dirty work means you can interfere in my affairs?!"

"Not a chance!"

General Ross slammed the pen in his hand onto the table. Before capturing Doctor Banner, he decided to first take the wind out of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s sails and teach this agent organization, which always loved meddling in other people's business, a lesson...

That was... this was Manhattan! This was America!!! Not a place where S.H.I.E.L.D. could do whatever it wanted!

With a grim expression, Colonel Ross walked up to Jack. As a career soldier, he had an exceedingly hardline style. Looking into Jack's eyes, he said in a steady voice, "Do S.H.I.E.L.D. agents never take off their sunglasses when speaking to people?"

"Perhaps I should call Fury and make his subordinate understand that he ought to show some manners when meeting someone of higher rank."

Jack: "..."

Jack had been thinking about how to secretly cause trouble later, so Ross's words annoyed him somewhat. He admitted that he had come here intending to stir things up.

But the bastard couldn't read minds. Why was he provoking him right off the bat? Did he think Jack looked easy to bully? Or did he take him for some useless freeloader?

Especially in front of all these S.H.I.E.L.D. agents—if Ross wanted him to take off his sunglasses, did that mean he had to do it?

How else was he supposed to build up his own faction and grow bigger and stronger afterward?

Jack knew that if he gave in to Ross today, he would leave an impression of weakness on his subordinates. That would not be good for his great Homelander ambitions.

Who would follow a spineless leader?

With the Evil Villain System, Jack had already raised his life ambition from retiring as a Level Eight Agent to becoming a Homelander who could do whatever he pleased. He decided to confront Ross head-on!

Jack raised his right hand in exaggerated slow motion. When his fingers touched his sunglasses, his hand suddenly accelerated, sweeping along the right side of his head and pushing backward to complete a perfect taunting gesture.

You thought I was going to yield and take off my sunglasses?

Ha! I was just fixing my hair!

"Young man... are you seriously doing that?!" The hot-tempered Ross immediately growled. He had been a colonel for several years and only needed to endure three more years of seniority before becoming a general.

Becoming a major general was already a foregone conclusion, so everyone he usually encountered treated him with great respect and awe.

But today... he had run into Jack, a man who wanted to become Homelander.

So... Ross pulled out his phone and called Fury on the spot. He directly turned on the speaker, intending to humiliate Jack in public and make him understand the hierarchy between superiors and subordinates!

Did he think America was a land of freedom?

Did that mean he could act so recklessly before a colonel?

Think again, young man! Ross was going to teach him a lesson!

Seeing Ross make the call, Jack was completely unfazed. He knew Fury was fiercely protective of his people. That bald black man did do some questionable things, but he was absolutely a good boss.

He could scold his own people, but no one else could!

Jack's fearless demeanor made Ross uneasy. He could not gauge just how deep Jack's backing was. He knew that unless certain agents made a grave mistake, Fury would never punish them.

Could the young agent before him be one of those special agents?

Fortunately, Ross's subordinates were sharp enough. The moment they noticed their superior's hesitation, they immediately gave their boss an excuse to back down.

"Report! Doctor Banner appears to be on the move! He seems to be leaving Central Park!"

"What?!" Ross put away his phone at lightning speed and strode toward the command vehicle without looking back.

That smooth, decisive retreat left the nearby NYPD utterly stunned.

S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Department of Defense, two major powers, were openly tearing into each other. Such a spectacle was a once-in-a-century event. Watching the whole show would have given them gossip to brag about for a year, but it was just gone?

Then why had they been so tense and confrontational just now?

Were they trying to scare all of us bystanders?

After Ross's people all gathered around the command vehicle, Marian looked Jack up and down in surprise. She teased, "Not bad. You always used to prioritize harmony, and you normally weren't this forceful when dealing with things. Why did you suddenly change today?"

"You drove off that troublesome Colonel Ross with just a few words. How did you do it?"

Jack coolly tapped the bridge of his sunglasses with his index finger and said in an ostentatious tone, "S.H.I.E.L.D. agents never take off their sunglasses!"

That was practically the sort of line only a true show-off king could say, making the agents behind Jack suck in a cold breath.

So cool!

So cool!!!

After joining S.H.I.E.L.D. for so long, they had always felt that, as an insanely awesome organization, S.H.I.E.L.D. lacked a classic line people would remember for the rest of their lives!

Now, it finally had one!

Jack Wilson, Level Six S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent, Chief Person in Charge of the Manhattan District!

S.H.I.E.L.D. agents never take off their sunglasses!

At that moment, whether they were rookies or veteran agents, they all felt the sunglasses on their faces grow heavier. They carried the soul of S.H.I.E.L.D.

This was the calling of a classic movie line.

From now on, whenever someone outside asked them to take off their sunglasses, this would be the legendary quote they could use to show off!
