"The host's slap awakened the loyal soldier within Colonel Ross. He realized the mistakes he had made over the years and decided to make amends for everything he had done. Therefore, he decided to disband the Super-Soldier Program and promised to protect Banner's marriage to his daughter..."
"Because of the host's actions, Abomination and Red Hulk can no longer appear in the Marvel Universe. Evil Points -30,000,000."
When Jack saw the negative thirty million, he could no longer run. Like a walking corpse whose soul had been torn away, he simply could not believe any of this was real...
One tiny slap from him had caused Abomination and Red Hulk to vanish, and made Colonel Ross choose to protect Doctor Banner's marriage to his daughter?!
If I'm this fucking awesome...
Then why the hell wasn't that awesomeness useful in the right place?!
Jack sat dejectedly by the roadside. Colonel Ross got out of the car, pulled out a pack of cigarettes, handed one to Jack, then lit one for himself. "You don't look too good right now. You did me a huge favor, so I have to help you out too. Tell me! What problem are you facing?"
Jack said, "Can you keep developing your Super-Soldier Program..."
Ross said, "My family has finally gotten a little more peaceful, and you bastard want to ruin it!"
Jack said, "Then you can leave! Get lost!"
Watching the military Hummer disappear into the night, Jack helplessly lit the cigarette. That slap, which had once been worth fifty thousand Evil Points, had ultimately cost him thirty million Evil Points...
That was a number Jack could never earn, even if he worked himself to death...
"Should I assassinate the President of the United States..."
"Or kill Captain America?"
"That should earn quite a few Evil Points."
Footsteps from Jack's right interrupted his thoughts. He turned toward the sound and saw Jenny jogging over in nothing but pajamas.
When she saw Jack smoking there, she let out a sigh of relief. "Why did you suddenly run out here?"
Jack shook his head. His confidence shattered by those thirty million points, he swayed to his feet, wrapped an arm around Jenny's slender waist, and started walking forward.
"Let's go back... I might die next month... While I can still move... I plan to move a few more times..."
Early the next morning, Jack got up bright and early. He first drove to S.H.I.E.L.D.'s secret hospital. At Marian's hospital room door, he hesitated for several seconds before pushing it open and walking in.
Seeing Jack arrive, Marian, who had finally calmed down after several days, sneered. "Isn't this the groom preparing for his wedding? Why aren't you with your wife? What are you doing here?"
The two knew each other far too well. Sometimes, without saying a word, they could read certain things on each other's faces.
When she saw that Jack did not react as she had expected, Marian asked in confusion, "Why do you look so miserable? That doesn't seem like you."
Jack walked to Marian's bedside, sat beside her, and reached out to take her hand. "If something happens to me next month, I bought myself several insurance policies before. This afternoon, I'll have lawyer Matt change the beneficiary's name to yours..."
Seeing Jack act as though he were making final arrangements, Marian froze for a few seconds before grabbing the pillow behind her and smashing it into his face.
"If you said Jenny cheated on you before the wedding, I might actually believe a little of it!"
"You say you bought several insurance policies and put my name down as the beneficiary?!"
"Do you take me for some forgetful, brain-dead young woman?!"
"Everyone knows you borrowed money from me to buy that house in Flushing!"
"Pah!"
Jack had intended to force some sentimentality into the moment, but Marian interrupted him. He regained some of his seriousness. If he were someone so easily crushed by hardship, he would have died years ago.
Perhaps before entering this room, he had felt a little like he was finished. But after seeing Marian, his fighting spirit reignited.
Because of his interference, Abomination and Red Hulk could no longer appear...
Following that line of thought, Jack wondered what would happen if he interfered like crazy...
Maybe he could forcibly snuff out the age of superheroes?
Without supervillains or superheroes, at least he would have a peaceful retirement to look forward to.
Jack had always been an optimist. Once he thought it through, he had already tossed that tiny bit of disappointment across the Atlantic Ocean.
Even without the system, he had clawed his way up to Level Six Agent. With his current position, if he stayed in S.H.I.E.L.D. until retirement, he might even receive the retirement benefits of a Level Nine Agent.
If he wanted to preserve S.H.I.E.L.D., the first step was to kill off the Insight Plan. That way, Hydra's rise would fail. Then he could sabotage them from within and make them hide for a few more decades. This time, he would be secure!
"Come to think of it, the situation I'm facing isn't that bad."
"In S.H.I.E.L.D., I'm a Level Six Agent. In Hydra, I'm a core member. As long as I make Hydra listen to me, I basically have nothing to worry about."
"So the problem still lies with Hydra!"
"Looks like it's time to play a little game of thrones!"
After finishing his thoughts, Jack looked at Marian in the bed and leaned closer with a beaming smile. "Marian, can I ask you to do something for me?"
"Get lost! I'm on medical leave!" Marian rejected Jack's request without even thinking. She knew this guy too well. Whenever he needed a favor, he was basically like this. Once the matter was settled...
Heh...
I lent you money to buy a house, and you went and married another woman?
If you used my money, then you have to be my man!
Jenny's appearance had completely awakened Marian. She realized that she and Jack were already nearing twenty-four. If they delayed another five years, they would both be thirty.
Now some little bitch had appeared to steal the man she had already claimed. If she were not former Director Pierce's precious daughter, Marian would have long since shown Jenny what a New York social queen was.
Looks like I need to find a way to settle this once and for all.
Marian's eyes shifted, and a smile returned to her face. Looking at Jack, she said, "It's fine if you want my help, but I have to be the one to organize the bride's bachelorette party."
Jack said, "..."
They were both old foxes. How could Jack not know what Marian was plotting? But for the time being, he did not plan to tell her that he and Jenny would actually divorce once Pierce's matter was resolved.
After all, she looked mature and dependable, but sometimes she was not reliable at all.
So Jack walked over to Marian and lifted her light golden hair. "Fine. If you want to organize the bachelorette party, I'll leave it to you. But what I want you to help me with is rather difficult..."
"Have you heard of George Raymond Richard Martin?"
"Hm?"
"Interested in pulling off a Red Wedding?"
