Naming Yaoxin
Black-Corner Region, Sacred City.
When Han Feng appeared above Sacred City with Little Fairy Doctor and Qing Lin, the city below did not stir in the slightest.
Only respectful gazes rose from all corners of the city.
The city walls towered into the clouds, forged entirely from obsidian and engraved with intricate formation patterns. Within the city, the streets were broad and immaculate. Teams of enforcers clad in dark iron armor patrolled back and forth, their auras steady and their steps uniform.
This was unlike any town they had seen before.
There was no clamor, no chaos—only an iron-blooded order that seemed to seep into one's bones.
Little Fairy Doctor and Qing Lin were both stunned.
They could not imagine that such a majestic city existed in the chaotic land of the Black-Corner Region.
Han Feng led the two of them down into the plaza of the City Lord's Manor.
A middle-aged man clad in heavy dark iron armor, his aura as steady as a mountain, had long been waiting there on one knee.
He was Mo Shan, Sacred City's chief enforcer.
"Welcome back to Sacred City, City Lord."
"Get up." Han Feng waved a hand, his tone casual.
He pointed at the two little girls behind him, who were still somewhat restrained.
"Go find two clean maidservants. Have them take the girls to bathe and change, then prepare some light food."
"Yes!"
Mo Shan did not ask a single question. He immediately rose to his feet and respectfully withdrew to make the arrangements.
Before long, two properly dressed maidservants approached and bowed gently to Little Fairy Doctor and Qing Lin.
"Young ladies, please come with us."
Qing Lin was a little frightened and instinctively clutched the hem of Little Fairy Doctor's clothes.
Little Fairy Doctor was not used to it either, but she still gathered her courage and nodded at Han Feng. Then, taking Qing Lin by the hand, she followed the maidservants toward the rear hall.
Watching their retreating figures, Han Feng instructed Mo Shan.
"Go to the medicine storehouse and fetch century-old Warm Jade Grass, Earth-Core Spirit Marrow, and Seven-Leaf Lotus. Prepare a medicinal bath."
"By your command." Mo Shan accepted the order and left once more.
The first thing Han Feng did for them was tend to their bodies.
Little Fairy Doctor had lived alongside poison for years. The Calamity Poison Body within her constantly absorbed and accumulated deadly toxins, while poisonous Dou Qi had long scoured and corroded the inner walls of her meridians. Over time, it would leave permanent damage.
As for Qing Lin, she had gone hungry since childhood and suffered severe malnutrition. Her physical foundation was terribly weak.
Without laying a proper foundation, how could they even speak of cultivation?
An hour later.
When the two girls appeared before Han Feng again, they seemed like entirely different people.
Little Fairy Doctor had changed into a moon-white gown. Her jet-black, straight hair had been washed clean and draped down her back like a waterfall. With the dust of travel washed from her face, her delicate features appeared even paler. Her violet-gray eyes were like gemstones veiled in mist, carrying an otherworldly purity amid their coolness.
She stood there, gentle and graceful, like a snow lotus quietly blooming in the mortal world.
Qing Lin, standing beside her, had changed just as greatly.
After changing into a pale green short dress, she was no longer that dirty little vagrant. Her little face had been washed clean, revealing a few delicate features. Though her emerald-green eyes still held timidity, they glittered brightly, as if starlight were hidden within them.
She still instinctively kept her left hand hidden behind her back, but she was clearly much more spirited.
"How do you feel?" Han Feng asked.
"Very... very comfortable," Little Fairy Doctor answered softly.
She could feel that the medicinal bath had relaxed her body as never before.
Han Feng nodded and pointed to a stone bench nearby.
"Sit. From today on, don't think about anything else for now. Restoring your health comes first."
Looking at the white-clad girl before him, who was still somewhat reserved, he casually asked, "You've always been called Little Fairy Doctor. Don't you have a name of your own?"
The girl froze for a moment, then lowered her head and gently shook it.
"I don't remember. Perhaps... I never had one." Her voice was soft, carrying a trace of loneliness that even she had not noticed.
"Since the past is gone, why not be reborn from this moment onward?"
Han Feng looked at her, pondered for a moment, then said, "There is a verse: 'Peach blossoms flourish, their splendor radiant.' From now on, your name will be Yaoxin—the Xin from warm and welcoming."
"Yaoxin..."
The girl savored the unfamiliar name, and mist seemed to rise in her violet-gray eyes.
For the first time in thirteen years, she had a name that truly belonged to her.
Not a codename, not a form of address.
It was her name.
"Yaoxin... Thank you... thank you." Her voice trembled slightly, and her eyes reddened at once.
Qing Lin watched from the side. Her little face showed a hint of envy, but even more than that, she was happy for her new friend.
"Alright, sit down, both of you." Han Feng paid no mind to her emotional turmoil and spoke again.
For the next half month, he did not teach them any cultivation techniques. Instead, he simply used all sorts of gentle heavenly treasures each day to prepare medicinal meals and medicinal baths for them.
Nourished by the pure medicinal power, the sickly pallor on Yaoxin's face gradually gained a touch of color.
Qing Lin changed even more. Ample food and medicinal power allowed her thin, small body to develop quickly. Her formerly sallow skin became fair, and she grew a little taller as well.
At last, the foundations of both girls had stabilized.
Seeing them on the right track, Han Feng finally had a little free time. He thought of his nominal junior brother far away in the Jia Ma Empire, and an idea came to him.
Though he knew the general course of events, seeing it with his own eyes would still put him more at ease.
"It's time to go take a look."
After informing Yaoxin and Qing Lin and telling them to continue nursing their bodies, Han Feng's figure silently vanished from Sacred City.
Jia Ma Empire, Wu Tan City.
Han Feng's figure appeared above this great border city.
He concealed every trace of his aura and walked slowly through the streets like an ordinary man.
Wu Tan City truly deserved to be one of the Jia Ma Empire's major cities; it was bustling with life. Though the blazing sun hung overhead, the streets remained packed with people. Cries of merchants and hawkers rose and fell, filling the air with the flavor of everyday life.
Han Feng merely strolled about casually, while his soul force spread across the entire city like an invisible net.
He soon found the target of his visit in the largest marketplace in the city.
It was a black-clad boy who looked to be around eleven or twelve. Though his face still retained some childishness, his brows carried a composure and pride that did not match his age.
He was wandering idly between the stalls, seemingly searching for something.
Not far behind him followed two chattering little girls.
One wore an extravagant light-purple dress and possessed an ethereal temperament, like a little princess surrounded by stars. Her lively eyes were almost constantly fixed on the black-clad boy's back.
The other wore a pink dress and had a pretty face, but the way she looked at the black-clad boy held undisguised admiration and ingratiation.
Han Feng's spiritual sense lightly swept over the black-clad boy.
The next moment, a playful smile curved his lips.
"Dou Practitioner..."
An eleven-year-old Dou Practitioner.
Across the entire continent, that level of talent could be considered exceptional.
So it was him.
The child of destiny, burdened with great fortune and destined to stir the winds and clouds of the continent—his nominal junior brother, Xiao Yan.
And those two behind him must be the Ancient Clan's young lady, Gu Xun'er—or rather, Xiao Xun'er—and the insignificant Xiao Mei.
