At dawn, white morning light streamed through gaps in the leaves and spilled across the ground. White Fog rose throughout the forest, shrouding the landscape in a haze.
Towering, densely packed trees and the occasional cries of wild beasts revealed the wilderness of this woodland!
The blood that appeared here and there on the ground, along with the mangled corpses of creatures, showed just how brutal the events of the previous night had been.
In this forest, there was a region that was clearly out of the ordinary.
A supermassive tree towered overhead, its enormous crown covering an area at least fifty kilometers in diameter.
This colossal tree stood a full ten thousand meters tall. Huge aerial roots dangled from its crown, reaching all the way to the ground. They slowly took root in the soil and drew nutrients from it, providing the trunk with vitality.
The tree's crown also grew in distinct tiers. It had six or seven layers in all. None of them was especially thick, but each stretched outward as far as possible to draw energy from the sunlight.
Even so, gaps remained in the canopy's vast shade. It didn't block out all the light, leaving room for other plants to grow.
Thus, beneath the colossal tree, countless flowers and grasses still flourished, with the occasional low shrub. As for tall trees, they had all disappeared. The dangling aerial roots kept drawing energy from the soil, leaving no room for them to survive.
Yet beneath this vibrant facade, the edges of the giant tree had already begun to turn yellow. Yellow leaves occasionally fell from its branches. It was clear that the tree had entered old age.
