Seven days later, Green sat in his laboratory chair. Days of experiments without sleep or rest had left even his sturdy body with dark circles under his eyes. His eyes were bloodshot, and his untended hair was a mess.
"I still can't resolve the genetic conflict!" Green stared at the test subject struggling inside a transparent box on his workbench. Worry filled his face, drawing several creases across it.
On the workbench, a thirty-centimeter-long blue Helos Parasite thrashed without pause. Every so often, it bit into its own body with its lamprey-like mouth. Its sharp teeth soon severed it, but the wound quickly healed. Rather than die, the Helos Parasite split into two individuals. They then attacked each other, each trying to devour the other.
The cycle continued until the energy lost along the way left too little to sustain it.
"I really did think it would be simpler than this!"
Green muttered to himself.
After combining the two sets of genes, Green discovered that things were nowhere near as simple as he had imagined. Normally, only some of the Helos Parasite's genes and the gene fragment extracted from Aichi were expressed. But once he mixed them, it was like a kettle boiling over. Both sets of genes expressed themselves wildly, each bent on destroying the other. They could not coexist at all.
"The repair ability is strong enough, but it's completely out of control! And the Helos Parasite's original ability to change its form and convert itself into Life Force has weakened, too." Green watched the Helos Parasite continue its cycle of devouring and splitting.
"Neither gene insertion from my previous life nor the Wizarding World's Bloodline Fusion Art can reduce the conflict between these genes. What am I supposed to do?" Green was at a loss.
"Genes, genes.
