As soon as Green entered the inn, a clamor of voices and the smell of cheap alcohol assaulted his ears and nose.

Green looked around. This was less an inn than a tavern.

"Sir! What can I do for you?" A black-haired young man at the front desk hurried over to greet Green.

"I need to rest. Do you have a quieter room, somewhere a little nicer?" Green asked with a frown.

"Yes, yes, sir! Our best room is just what you're looking for!" the clerk replied at once.

"It's just that the price..." His meaning was obvious.

"Then give me your best room. I also have a carriage and two strong black horses that need looking after. How much altogether?" Green asked, his face expressionless.

"Our best room costs thirty copper coins a night, and feed for one horse costs twenty copper coins. With two horses, that comes to seventy copper coins a day."

Green took five silver coins from his belt pouch and tossed them to the clerk. "My horses eat more than most, so they'll need extra feed. Use what's left to bring me your best food, and deliver it to my room!"

The clerk's eyes went wide at Green's generosity, but he quickly put on a fawning smile.

"Yes, my lord! Please follow me!" The clerk opened the inn's main doors and led the way.

Green climbed onto the carriage, and the clerk walked ahead, taking the reins and leading it around to the back of the inn.
