Assignment

"Mentor." Levan looked at Lohr and called out somewhat awkwardly.

He had seen everything that had just happened.

He truly had not expected Lohr, who had been an enemy moments ago, to become his mentor after exchanging a few words with his grandfather.

But his grandfather must have had his reasons for doing this. He only needed to obey.

"Mm." Lohr nodded and smiled. "Since I've become your mentor, I'll give you an assignment first."

"What assignment?" Levan asked curiously.

"After you return, raise your Divine Power Crystal share to thirty percent," Lohr said.

Kindness was a fine virtue, but too much of it was not.

As a monopolized safe platform, taking fifty percent was perfectly reasonable.

Taking thirty percent was already generous. Taking ten percent was simply foolish.

"This... Mentor, wouldn't thirty percent be too much?"

Levan hesitated before saying, "They all earned those Divine Power Crystals by risking their lives. How about twenty percent instead?"

In truth, he felt that even taking twenty percent was excessive. But this was the first assignment his mentor had given him, so he did not dare refute it outright.

"Levan, if you haven't changed the distribution after three days, I'll help you raise it to fifty percent."

Lohr's expression turned serious. "For now, arrange a place for me to stay. I still have something to do."

He realized that he could not be too nice to this kid, or the kid would start pushing his luck.

"Yes, Mentor." Seeing that Lohr was nowhere near as easygoing as his grandfather, Levan could not help feeling dejected and troubled.

As he turned and led the way, a few more worries arose in his heart.

With such a forceful mentor around, he truly had no idea what his future days would be like.

I should never have come to the Divine Kingdom for fun.

Five minutes later.

The flame-lit hills blazed fiercely, casting a crimson glow over the robes of the more than two thousand apprentice wizards whispering outside the temporary camp.

"Did any of you see what that person's wizard robe looked like?" someone asked curiously.

"I didn't see it clearly, but I saw that his defensive barrier was made of earth elements."

"That 1.4-circle spell he used contained fire elements. He should be a dual fire-and-earth apprentice."

"That school doesn't seem to have a single Fourth Circle wizard. It's unbelievable that such a powerful apprentice could emerge from it."

"It really is outrageous. No wonder even the Fire Element Tower Master descended."

"It definitely will!"

The crowd had been chattering endlessly, but the moment Levan approached with Lohr, they immediately fell silent.

Confusion and fear intertwined constantly within their hearts.

The Lava Eruption Sorcery Lohr had cast not far from the camp earlier had terrified quite a few people.

Levan led Lohr to the front of the crowd and announced loudly:

"Everyone, Lord Lohr is now my mentor. He will be living in the camp from now on, and our camp will become even safer."

At this good news, the crowd instantly erupted.

Their confusion and fear vanished, replaced by joy and excitement.

"Wonderful! With Lord Lohr here, our camp will be even safer."

Levan waited for a while. Once everyone's excitement had calmed somewhat, he spoke again:

"Of course, Mentor joining the camp comes with conditions. From now on, the Divine Power Crystal distribution between everyone and the camp will be changed to seventy-thirty."

"If anyone has objections, you may settle your previous Divine Power Crystal share with me later and leave the camp."

Hearing this, Lohr, who had stood silently behind Levan, curled his lips into a faint smile.

Though this kid had plenty of flaws, he also had his strengths: he acted decisively.

Lohr had never said that he wanted a twenty percent Divine Power Crystal share. This was entirely an excuse Levan had made up on the spot.

"Isn't that far too much?"

"Boss, could we perhaps..."

The delight on the apprentices' faces disappeared at a visible rate. Most of them fell silent, while a few wondered whether there was room for further discussion.

Of course, they knew how generous Levan had been when he took only ten percent of the Divine Power Crystals. Even thirty percent could not really be considered much.

But if they could get more Divine Power Crystals, no one wanted less.

"I already said it. If you are unwilling, you may settle your share with me later and leave."

Levan frowned and said loudly, "Now move aside. I need to find a room for Mentor to rest in."

He did not want to raise the Divine Power Crystal share either, but his mentor had assigned the task and said it was non-negotiable. What could he do?

Hearing this, the apprentices could only silently step aside, clearing a path into the camp.

Levan led Lohr through the crowd and straight into the stone palace at the center of the camp.

The moment they entered the stone palace, Levan immediately changed his expression. He turned toward Lohr and said with a slightly ingratiating smile:

"Mentor, I do not really need that thirty percent Divine Power Crystal share. If it is useful to you, I'll give it all to you."

"You needn't give it all to me." Lohr shook his head. "Since you used my name, I'll take fifteen percent."

It was certainly not right to take a student's things for free, but taking them with a reason was perfectly reasonable.

This was actually the second lesson he wanted to teach Levan: everything came at a price.

But teaching that lesson directly probably would not work very well. After all, this little fellow had a grandfather and the means to be willful.

It would be better to influence him gradually.

"Alright, Mentor." Levan nodded indifferently and continued leading the way.

They passed several small rooms before finally stopping in front of a relatively spacious hall.

"Mentor, this is the most spacious hall in the stone palace. Are you satisfied with it?"

Levan pointed at the hall and smiled. "If you aren't, I can call a few earth-element apprentices over to build a larger stone palace."

Lohr stepped into the hall and looked around.

The hall was around seven meters tall and roughly a hundred meters long and wide. It was indeed spacious.

There was a long stone table in the center of the hall, with two rows of stone chairs beside it. There was nothing else.

"This will do. I'll stay here." Lohr nodded.

This was the Divine Kingdom Trial. Having a room to shelter from the wind and rain was already good enough. There was no need to be picky.

"Alright. I'll have the earth-element apprentices make you a bed later, then bring two Silvermoon Wolf pelts for you to spread over it."

Levan was about to turn and leave after speaking, but Lohr stopped him just as he had turned halfway around.

"Just bring the two Silvermoon Wolf pelts. There's no need for the earth-element apprentices."

The Silvermoon Wolf was an apprentice-level lifeform, renowned for its beautiful and soft fur.

Since there was something comfortable to enjoy, Lohr naturally would not refuse it.

"Yes." Levan answered and headed toward his bedroom.

Before long, he brought over the two wolf pelts. After learning that Lohr needed nothing else, he left.

He had only just announced the increase in shares, so he needed to deal with the aftermath.

Lohr circled the hall once, then condensed a black stone bed from earth elements in a corner.

After spreading the two wolf pelts over it and setting up an Adaptive Rock Barrier magic array in the hall, he sat back down on the bed and continued advancing his Meditation Method.
