Its tip burst out through his back, trailing a cloud of golden blood. The entire spear was brilliant gold, its shaft coiled with intricate dragon patterns. Those patterns were glowing now, spreading toward both ends of the spear and devouring everything in their path. Tang Wulin knelt on the ground, his knees striking the cold floor with a dull thud.
His hands hung at his sides, fingers slightly curled, fingertips resting against the ground. Blood spilled endlessly from his mouth, running down his jaw and dripping onto his clothes and the floor.

He could feel his heartbeat slowing, each beat weaker than the last, like someone far away beating a drum with a hole in it. His lungs were filled with blood, and every breath came with a watery gurgle. His vision began to blur. The scene before him split into two, merged into one, then split again.
