Ch. 21The Hasaba Sisters!
Plot points
- After killing 127 Jujutsu Sorcerers—including 16 Grade 1 sorcerers—Ronova wanders the streets, unsure where to go or sleep.
- Suguru Geto finds her and offers her a place to stay. The deaths have greatly increased Ronova’s Cursed Energy and helped her unlock a new technique: Thousand Hands, Hundred Eyes.
- Ronova accepts, believing she could escape Geto if necessary.
- At Geto’s home, she meets his adopted twin daughters, Mimiko and Nanako Hasaba. The chapter recounts their tragic history: villagers abused them after their parents’ deaths, and Geto rescued them by killing the villagers. They later became sorcerers and were ultimately killed after Geto’s death.
- The next morning, Nanako brings Ronova to breakfast. Geto offers to send her to a war zone so she can kill enough people to become strong enough to face Satoru Gojo in two months. Ronova refuses.
Character developments and interactions
- Ronova is powerful and newly confident, but her wandering shows she has no clear plan. She misreads Geto’s invitation suspiciously, then becomes envious of the sisters’ looks before acting dismissive. At breakfast, she prioritizes eating over pride.
- Geto treats Ronova as an ally and offers practical help, though his proposed route to strength is extreme. He is also shown as an unexpectedly capable cook.
- Mimiko and Nanako are wary of Ronova and privately ask Geto about her relationship with him. They relax when they learn she is only his ally. Nanako later wakes Ronova for breakfast.
Significant themes
- Power and survival: Ronova’s strength grows through mass killing, and she sees power as protection and freedom.
- Moral compromise: Geto’s offer to send her to a war zone presents slaughter as a shortcut to defeating Gojo.
- Tragedy and victimhood: The sisters’ backstory shows how people harmed by others can be drawn into violence and become villains themselves.
- Uneasy alliances and jealousy: Ronova joins Geto’s household, but mutual suspicion and comic rivalry keep the relationships unsettled.
