History

Sasuke began as the strongest student in his class, easily defeating Naruto’s attempted rooftop ambush. He entered Team 7 under Kakashi Hatake, where his eagerness to prove himself led him to attack first in the bell test. Kakashi effortlessly countered him, but Sasuke continued fighting and ultimately joined Naruto and Sakura in the teamwork that earned the team’s passage. His overriding goal was to become strong enough to kill his older brother, Itachi Uchiha. 2 3 6

During the Land of Waves mission, Naruto taught Sasuke the Shadow Clone Technique. Sasuke could only create two clones, but kept pace through persistence and talent. Naruto subsequently engineered Sasuke’s battle with Haku: he provoked Haku using a Sasuke disguise, initially replaced Haku’s steel needles with bamboo skewers, then restored some needles once Sasuke faced too little danger to awaken. Naruto’s apparent death during the fight triggered Sasuke’s One-Tomoe Sharingan. 16 17 18 20

Orochimaru later targeted Sasuke as a potential vessel and implanted both the Heaven’s Curse Mark and Earth Seal. After Naruto and Itachi arranged a false account blaming Danzo for the Uchiha massacre, Sasuke accepted that Itachi had not killed their clan.
