Background
Naruto’s body is inhabited by a transmigrated Naruto fan who retains knowledge of the original series but forgets his former name. After waking in Naruto Uzumaki’s room and recognizing Konoha, he accepts that he can only live as Naruto Uzumaki. His foreknowledge becomes the foundation of his efforts to alter expected events. 1
He initially hides much of his competence behind a foolish, boastful persona. During Team 7’s early missions, he collaborates with Kakashi to expose Tazuna’s lie, manipulates Haku into attacking Sasuke to awaken the Sharingan, and secretly protects Sasuke from lethal harm throughout the encounter. 9 17 20
After defeating Danzo, Naruto learns that he is the son of Minato Namikaze and Kushina Uzumaki. Danzo’s testimony also leads him to a hidden Uzumaki estate in Konoha, where Naruto begins reclaiming knowledge connected to his clan and parents. 84 85
Appearance
Naruto is a blond-haired Konoha ninja who initially wears an orange ninja outfit and a Konoha forehead protector. 1 159
- Commonly carries marked Three-Pronged Kunai for Flying Thunder God teleportation. 90
- Later possesses red Sharingan eyes following his transplant. 99
- Wears Akatsuki’s black robe with red clouds after Obito accepts him into the organization. 177
Personality
Naruto presents himself as playful, boastful, flirtatious, and frequently ridiculous, readily proclaiming himself the future Hokage or mocking stronger opponents in battle. His humor often conceals a far more calculating personality; Kabuto comes to view him as unfathomable and frightening once he witnesses Naruto’s intimidation, recruitment attempts, and rapid recovery. 12 99
He is highly strategic and treats information, deception, and other people’s ambitions as weapons. Naruto engineers battles to obtain rare powers, manipulates political narratives around Danzo and the Uchiha massacre, and repeatedly approaches dangerous enemies as prospective subordinates rather than simple targets. 78 81 152
Naruto is intensely protective of Hinata and gives her exceptional attention, encouragement, and battlefield trust. However, his protectiveness coexists with a ruthless willingness to manipulate allies and enemies alike. By the end of the story, he deliberately allows Boruto’s abduction and places the child with an ordinary family, prioritizing his own plans over fatherhood. 116 221
Abilities & Skills
Flying Thunder God Technique
Naruto masters the Fourth Hokage’s improved Flying Thunder God Technique independently, earning Jiraiya’s recognition as a “natural-born ninja.” 90
- Uses marked Three-Pronged Kunai as teleportation anchors. 90
- Refines his attack timing by beginning a strike before teleporting, allowing the blow to land as he appears beside a marker. 90
- Can teleport himself and companions who are in physical contact with him. 112
- Uses marks placed on people—including Gaara, Yugito, and Boruto—to track or reach them remotely. 134 184 221
- Can teleport to unmarked locations by forming hand seals when he knows the destination’s direction and distance; the Flying Thunder God Formula substitutes for those seals at marked locations. 146
Rasengan, Rasenshuriken, and Sage Jutsu
Jiraiya teaches Naruto the Rasengan, whose first chakra-control exercise Naruto completes instantly. He later masters and throws the Rasengan, adds Wind Release, and creates the S-rank Wind Release: Rasenshuriken. 100 127
- Uses Rasengan in conjunction with Flying Thunder God teleportation to strike opponents before they can respond. 111
- Develops Rasenshuriken with Hinata observing and correcting his chakra circulation through the Byakugan. 128
- Masters Sage Jutsu at Mount Myoboku, combining natural energy with physical and spiritual energy. 127 128
- Uses Sage Mode to challenge opponents whose physical defenses resist ordinary ninjutsu, including the Fourth Raikage. 159
- Demonstrates exceptional chakra control by creating miniature Rasengan and Rasenshuriken variants. 184
Sharingan and Kotoamatsukami
Naruto steals Shisui Uchiha’s Sharingan from Danzo, has Kabuto transplant it, and eventually gains access to Kotoamatsukami. 78 99
- Uses the Sharingan for perception, genjutsu, and psychological intimidation. 99 117
- Successfully uses Kotoamatsukami on Orochimaru, ultimately turning the former Sannin into a subordinate. 122 214
- A failed attempt against Orochimaru does not consume Kotoamatsukami’s use. 110
- Receives Shisui’s remaining left eye from Itachi. 171
- As a non-Uchiha, cannot deactivate the Sharingan; it constantly drains chakra, though Naruto relies on his enormous reserves to endure the burden. 112
Shadow Clones and Transformation
Naruto uses Shadow Clone and Transformation Techniques for infiltration, ambushes, staged performances, and psychological manipulation rather than merely numerical attacks. 6 9 20
- Coordinates with Kakashi by using transformed clones to impersonate Hidden Mist assassins and force Tazuna to confess his deception. 9
- Disguises himself as Sasuke to provoke Haku into escaping and attacking Sasuke. 17
- Uses Transformation Technique to disguise himself as Tsunade and lure Orochimaru into a trap. 110
- His huge chakra reserves allow even his Shadow Clones to use high-level ninjutsu. 111
Tailed Beast Chakra and Sealing Techniques
As the Nine-Tails’ jinchūriki, Naruto possesses immense chakra reserves and rapid healing. He later forms voluntary bonds with multiple Tailed Beasts. 111 167
- Draws on the Nine-Tails’ chakra to recover from severe injuries. 112
- Uses Adamantine Sealing Chains, though his mixed Uzumaki bloodline initially allows him to produce only three chains. 143
- Persuades Tailed Beasts to enter his body willingly, avoiding the limits of conventional forced sealing. 167
- Treats the Tailed Beasts as a reunited family and offers his body as their home in exchange for their chakra. 184
- Can release Tailed Beasts such as Shukaku and Matatabi into battle. 219
Summoning Technique
Naruto can summon giant toads, most notably Gamabunta, and commands them in large-scale battles. 67 71
- Uses a giant oil-spewing toad to weaken Gaara’s sand sphere and prevent Sasuke from striking him. 67
- Directs Gamabunta to exploit Shukaku’s weakness to Water Release. 71
- Summons Gamabunta to engage Manda while Naruto confronts Orochimaru and Kabuto. 111
Tactical Planning and Recruitment
Naruto consistently turns conflicts into opportunities to acquire information, bloodlines, powerful techniques, or loyal followers. 78 117
- Orchestrates Danzo’s confrontation with Shukaku to seize Shisui’s Sharingan. 78
- Preserves Danzo and Kabuto as intelligence assets rather than immediately killing them. 81 112
- Recruits or attempts to recruit Zabuza, Haku, Karin, Kabuto, Orochimaru, Kimimaro, Torune, Gaara, Itachi, and Nagato. 49 81 111 117 156 167
- Uses his knowledge of enemy weaknesses to create countertraps, including an operation specifically designed to expose Zetsu. 219 220
Relationships
- Hinata Hyuga — Romantic partner and closest battlefield companion. Naruto repeatedly protects her, praises her growth, and publicly declares her the future Hokage’s wife. 71 116 171
- Sasuke Uchiha — Team 7 rival and ally. Naruto protects Sasuke, engineers the circumstances for his Sharingan awakening, and later helps restore his relationship with Itachi. 17 152
- Jiraiya — Mentor who teaches Naruto the Rasengan and Sage Jutsu. Jiraiya eventually struggles to find techniques Naruto has not already mastered. 100 127 128
- Kakashi Hatake — Team 7’s leader and an early collaborator in Naruto’s schemes. Kakashi recognizes Naruto’s combat awareness but becomes increasingly unable to understand his motives. 9 12 173
- Zabuza Momochi and Haku — Recruited allies who become Naruto’s loyal enforcers. Haku wields the Eight-Foot Magatama Sword Naruto gives him, while Zabuza frequently handles covert protection and assassination. 32 49 76
- Karin — Uzumaki companion whose chakra-restoring ability supports Naruto’s recovery and training. Naruto later seeks a safer alternative to biting her for chakra. 97 99 140
- Orochimaru — Former enemy whom Naruto subdues through Kotoamatsukami and treats as a controlled subordinate. 122 214
- Itachi Uchiha — Political ally and future Root candidate under Naruto’s planned administration. Itachi gives Naruto Shisui’s remaining eye and cooperates in protecting Sasuke. 113 171
- Gaara — Former enemy whom Naruto frees and later relies upon as the Fifth Kazekage. Naruto maintains a Flying Thunder God mark on him as a supposed symbol of friendship. 97 134
- Nagato/Pain — Jiraiya’s other disciple and Naruto’s “senior brother.” Naruto seeks to manipulate him into an alliance while contesting his approach to peace. 167 221
