Background / History

Tie Shan was one of the Purple Extreme Sect outer sect’s leading disciples, holding ninth place among its ten greatest experts. At the annual outer sect tournament, he faced the middle-stage Body Tempering Ye Yun in the first round. Viewing Ye Yun as far beneath him, he repeatedly urged him to concede before using his major-mastery Jade-Shattering Fist to defeat him in only a few exchanges. The blow sent Ye Yun crashing onto the arena and injured the back of his head, an event that later led to Ye Yun awakening his ability to perceive martial-art compatibility. 1 3 236

He was the elder brother of Ironwood. When Ironwood was badly defeated by Ye Yun, Tie Shan initially rebuked him for relying on his name, neglecting cultivation, and provoking others. However, he relented after Ironwood invoked their promise to their mother, agreeing to avenge him after completing an important trip outside the sect. 6

After returning from training as a Qi Refining Realm martial artist, Tie Shan applied for the inner sect disciple assessment and issued Ye Yun a challenge on the Life-and-Death Platform. He expected the lower-realm Ye Yun to refuse or die, but Ye Yun accepted. 13 14

Tie Shan’s death deeply affected Ironwood, who initially refused to accept the duel’s outcome. In the days afterward, Ironwood knelt at Tie Shan’s grave, blamed himself for provoking Ye Yun, and swore vengeance; this grief and hatred ultimately drove him into the Blood God Sect’s influence. 15 103 105 142

Personality

Tie Shan was proud of his strength and contemptuous toward weaker opponents. During his first match with Ye Yun, he treated Ye Yun’s wish to test himself as pointless and threatened to hit him hard for persisting. 1

Despite his arrogance, he was protective of Ironwood and did not blindly indulge him at first. He criticized Ironwood’s bullying and lack of diligence, but his affection for his younger brother ultimately overrode his judgment. 6

His confidence in his defensive ability became fatal. Believing Ye Yun could not harm him even after failing with a sword, Tie Shan deliberately stood still to receive Ye Yun’s punch. 14

Following Ironwood’s defeat, Tie Shan promises to avenge him after leaving the sect for an important matter. He does not immediately act, allowing Ye Yun two months to cultivate and grow stronger. 6 7

Life-and-Death Duel

Tie Shan returns as a Qi Refining Realm martial artist and publicly pressures Ye Yun into a duel. His Stonewall Art repels Ye Yun’s sword attacks, but Ye Yun switches to his fists and uses Dark Force to pierce Tie Shan’s defense and shatter his heart. 13 14

Legacy
