The Dark Gold Three-Headed Bat sailed through the air in a parabola, tracing a beautiful arc.
Seeing prey hurtling straight toward its mouth, the serpent deep in the darkness moved.
Its coiled body abruptly tightened like a spring, and its long neck shot out like an arrow loosed from a bow with a whoosh. Its enormous head appeared before Yang Ming and Hu Liena, its blood-gaping maw snapping open to reveal sharp teeth coated in thick snake saliva, a scarlet tongue like a spear, a bottomless throat, and a pair of razor-sharp fangs.
"Squeak, squeak, squeak!"
As foul breath that smelled like centuries of unbrushed teeth blasted into its face, the Dark Gold Three-Headed Bat let out terrified shrieks. Every strand of its furry coat stood on end. A golden flash swept across its leftmost head, and its entire body transformed into several little golden bats, each less than half its original size, which fled in different directions.
It all happened in the blink of an eye.
The giant serpent's gaping maw descended with a crunch.
Apart from one little golden bat that escaped by sheer luck, every last bat met its end in the serpent's belly.
Its blood-red eyes lit up. Apparently, the bats tasted rather good, with a satisfying crunch that left the giant serpent savoring the aftertaste. It swept its tongue around its mouth and raised its head, spotting the remaining little golden bat as it transformed back into the Dark Gold Three-Headed Bat. Compared with before, however, it was now only palm-sized, looking rather small and delicate. It seemed even tastier!
Involuntarily, its saliva flowed faster.
