(Second update)
Buddhist chants drifted through the air, and golden light blazed.
Under Yang Ming's astonished gaze, Tang Chen sat cross-legged. The ruins beneath him vanished as golden light gathered into a golden lotus that supported his powerful body. A golden halo revolved clockwise behind him, while the terrifying pressure of slaughter he had radiated earlier was washed away completely, replaced by an aura of peace and serenity.
Tang Chen's dark eyes were half closed, his expression solemn and his face serene, giving him a distinctly Buddhist bearing. He pressed his palms together and softly recited scripture.
In the mere blink of an eye, Tang Chen gave an entirely different impression, changing from a sect master whose imposing presence towered to the heavens into a kindly old monk.
The problem was that Yang Ming had been utterly bewildered throughout the entire process.
Buddhist teachings were poison!
Yang Ming secretly put himself on guard. Remembering how Fahai's chanting had echoed in his ears when he obtained the Diamond Prajna Palm, he felt his cheek twitch. Had his resolve not been firm enough back then, might he have ended up just like Tang Chen and chosen to convert to the Buddhist Sect on the spot?
Perhaps Tang Chen had noticed Yang Ming's wariness of the Buddhist Sect, or perhaps he simply felt goodwill toward Yang Ming for saving his life. He explained gently:
"Young man, do not overthink this, and do not harbor doubts. This was all something this humble monk did of his own free will."
Tang Chen's dark eyes were as deep as secluded pools. Recalling the past, he spoke with a wealth of emotion:
"In the past, because of a promise, I devoted all my energy to breaking through to godhood. But the gulf between humans and gods was
