"Didn't I say so?" Shen He smiled faintly. "We come from the Human Order Preservation Foundation, Chaldea. You aren't the only ones who have been protecting the world from the shadows."
Chapter 9: The Resolute Qi Zhao Faction
Chaldea.
This was the second time Fury had heard that name. The first had been from Coulson.
And now, he had more detailed information.
The Human Order Preservation Foundation!
"If you've been protecting the world all this time, why have I never heard of you?" Fury would not believe him so easily. "S.H.I.E.L.D. has the most comprehensive information database in the world. As long as humans have investigated something, there will be records of it."
"Because most of the time, we only observe."
Shen He reached out and slapped the mech behind him again. This time, the enormous mech vanished into thin air.
"Observe what?" Fury asked in a low voice.
No matter what, the miraculous methods the other side had displayed were no trivial matter.
That enormous mech alone would require vast resources to build.
"Observe you." Shen He pondered for a moment, seemingly organizing his words. "Chaldea was founded to ensure that human history could endure for a long time and continue with resilience. We have no interest in humanity's internal conflicts, nor do we intend to protect world peace, because war has long been an inseparable part of human order... Earth has many protectors, so up until now, most of what we have done has been observation and record-keeping."
"Many protectors?"
Fury immediately caught the key point in Shen He's words.
"The Asgardian Gods protect Earth from extraterrestrial threats, while a group of reclusive mages resist dark creatures from other dimensions. Honestly, among the organizations that protect Earth, S.H.I.E.L.D. has the worst temper and is the most useless." Shen He stretched lazily, already thinking about how to end the topic.
He only had that much useful information in his head, and it had all been coaxed out at once. How was he supposed to keep playing this in the future?
"What about you?" Fury's one remaining eye stared sharply at Shen He. "If you only observe, why have you appeared now?"
And they had made no effort to conceal their movements. Bringing out a giant mech to fight openly on the street was not the sort of thing an organization hidden in the shadows should do.
"We..." Shen He narrowed his eyes slightly. "Are you sure you want to know?"
"Of course."
Fury's tone was firm.
"Fine. Our seer predicted a massive disaster, one even the protectors would be powerless against, so we had no choice but to act personally... Don't call it cliché." Shen He stepped past the bald egghead and hooked an arm around Tony's shoulders. "Hey, let's make a deal. Let us use a few rooms in your mansion, and I'll let you study my mech. How about it?"
"You're willing to let me study your mech?" Tony was startled.
Shouldn't these mysterious organizations all treat their technology as incomparably precious?
"Of course, but don't break it. This mech is the only defensive weapon I brought with me." Shen He smiled. "And while I'm at it, let me tell you some good news. According to our seer's prophecy, you have an important role to play in the future, and it seems I'll be attending your wedding. So work hard."
"Oh, God." Tony pointed at himself in disbelief. "Me? A wedding? I'd have to be dying before I'd be willing to get married."
"Just tell me whether you agree or not." Shen He shrugged.
"...Deal. I need that defensive force field, and your mech doesn't seem to rely on jets to fly. Antigravity technology?" Tony agreed anyway.
If everything Shen He said was true, then he would not die so easily. That made him somewhat interested in researching entirely new technology.
